Honestly my boys ask me to get pedal cars with beautiful lamp like they see on tv and internet. But, when I get there some people offer me pedal car with an expensive price (subjective for me), their reasons because it crowded and it took around 60 minutes for 1 lap.
So I decided to leave them and make another options for my boys, yeah, buy a bubble and play on their large field. When I play , I saw traffic jam cars and pedal cars, not long time after I play then rain falls from the sky.
So , I run to the parking lot.
If you don't want to play, you can enjoy local food and eat lesehan (sit down below with no chair, only carpet/tiker) watching night view.
Always ask the price before you buy ... ( a little tips from me)

This square is a party/festival every single night. Filled with about 80 food stands, plus balloons, kites, painting, and these crazy pedal cars you see pictured here. Super cool and weird and fun. We lived nearby and our 8-year old wanted to go every night. She loved painting her own canvases and statues. So jealous that this is how college kids in Java enjoy a night out - so different (and innocent) than in the US.

The place comes alive in the evening, with colorful and brightly lit-up streetcars for tourists to ride around the park, the 2 big trees in the centre with plenty of folks trying the blindfolded walk through them to get a slice of luck, and street vendors aplenty all around the place. Popular with locals and tourists alike - typically, a must on the itinerary.

We were unlucky as it was a very rainy evening the last time we went there, but even then we had a nice ride around the park in a "My little pony" beetle-cycle and practiced walking on stilts on the grass. If it's dry there's a lot more activities and games going on and stuff for sale.

Alun-alun selatan is one of the popular nightlife destinations in Yogyakarta. But i recomended to you to enjoy the beauty sunset from this place. Enjoy the scene, and enjoy the traditional taste inside the Palace.

We came here at night when the place comes alive. Plenty of colorful pedal cars all lit up with bright and colorful neon and led lights, with loud music blaring. They come in all shapes and sizes and you can rent one and pedal around the square. The atmosphere is quite lively and contagious. Plenty of people were either riding the pedal cars or enjoying a meal sitting on the pavements. Some, like us were busy watching the activities and taking photos. Good, enjoyable experience.

This place located behind Yogyakarta palace. Local says this place as “Alun Alun Kidul”. Kidul means selatan in bahasa or south in english. We visit this place at night, there a lot of people especially weekend. We can enjoy riding colourful light rickshaws which shape as a car 😁

The Alun-alun has plenty of atmosphere, there were people everywhere.
We arrived by becak from Prawirotaman, around Rp30.000 ($3AUD) and went for a wander. There were lots of glow in the dark, laser, keyring trinket things to buy in the centre. There were also warungs, places to eat, which we didn't use.
We then found an odong-odong that looked cool and organised to go around the Square once for $3. The music was blaring, the visibility was poor due to the abundance of neon both in and around the car and we had a blast! It was fun to drive, pedalling past others who were also having fun!
Highly recommend a visit!

Recommended to visit at night to ride the LED pedal cars! Visited on weekday (Thursday) and it cost about Rp40.000 per round (small car that fits 2) or Rp70.000 per round (bigger car). Was told that the price fluctuates depending on time and day. For those who are intending to visit on weekend or festive period, it can cost up to Rp100.000 per round!
Overall a fun and nice activity to enjoy, be it with friends or family.
