You will find a pretty ‘temple’ behind a mountain. I’ve been here many years ago and surprised to see lots of improvement in this area. I love this place because of the landscape and stone combinations. I blew my imagination to draw the temple in the past. Take time to visit this place in the afternoon before sunset.

The place is quite nice, nothing to complain about that.
But 25$ / 355.000 IDR (rupiah) for a tourist ticket is ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE, moreover when there aren't so many things to see there. It is NOT WORTH THE PRICE !!!!!!!!
And especially when you see that the LOCAL price is 3$. A relatively affordable and fair price for the local people.
If the Indonesian government continue establishing these prices, I guess there won't be many more tourists coming to Indonesia in a soon future. The price should be reduced MINIMUM by half.

My partner and I arrived at the (admittedly slightly late) time of 5pm knowing the site was only open until 6pm, and bought a ticket on that basis.
We were charged an outrageous 10 times the 'locals' rate - a far higher markup than other sites we had visited.
We then discovered several parts of the site had already closed for the evening, and we were escorted out for 'closing time' at 5.30, meaning we spent ~$25/pp for ten minutes!
We were offered a refund if we could return the next morning, which we couldn't and which would have cost money to do. Email requests for a refund were ignored for a month, and then refused.
All in all, a bunch of scam artists who fleece tourists. AVOID.

Once you found the place it is quite nice. When we wen there the google maps pin was wrongly guiding us yo a closed restaurant. Bu there are signs on the road so follow those. Nice view over the Prambanan Temple for the restaurant and a very spacious area with temple ruins all over. Good walk and nice views.

We bought the combined ticket with Prambanan Temple. In the morning there is a free shuttle between the temples.
Ratu Boko temple is very peaceful with beautifully maintained grounds. However, most the structures are just what's left of the foundations. This is fine, but as the entrance fee is the same as Prambanan, it seems way overpriced.
Most the signs have an English translation which is good.

Ratu Boko is a nice, ruined temple not far from Prambanan temple complex, up on a hill. It has an impressive entrance gate.
I only had less than two hours so had to hurry round the temple area. The weather was good and there were not so many people so I wandered around almost alone, as my companions preferred to wait in the shade. So I went all around, even up the hill to the "Padang" from which there is a lovely view across to Prambanan.
With the brochure I was able to read up a bit afterwards too, since I was in a hurry to catch a late afternoon flight.
For foreigners living in the country, don't forget to bring your kitas to avail of the normal entry price, currently Rp 40,000 per person.

Its a very stunning view for sunset. Recommended for those who are hunting for good photo's spots. Not to difficult to reach, but please expect small countryside road to reach there.
Ticketing close at 5 pm. You have to leave at 5.30pm. Sunset around 5.20pm

I thought if the ticket was bought by online, there will be limited visitor to come, but as I arrived there, there were many people and I was not so enjoying since people seem careless though its kind a sacred place

U may not fan of old ruins or stones with so much of historical value here.... but... I can guarantee that you might amaze with its existing and story. Our local tour guide did gave his very best to talk about this ancient Temple. Great place for photos too.

Hi everyone. If I want to visit Ratu Boko for sunset, but don't want the coffee/tea/meals provided with the sunset ticket (IDR110,000), can I buy the regular ticket (USD13) and stay until sunset?

Hi Carolyn,
Yes you can buy the regular ticket to enjoy the sunset at Ratu Boko Temple.
If you happen to visit Prambanan at the same day as Ratu Boko, you can buy a combined ticket of Prambanan and Ratu Boko.
So go to Prambanan first (make sure you bring umbrella and put on your sunscreen) and afterwards going to Ratu Boko to enjoy the sunset there.
They provide a shuttle service to and fro as well.
Enjoy!
Hope this helps ;)

Hi. Is it possible for me to head to Ratu Boko Temple by bus from Borobudur Temple? Would appreciate it if you could advice on the route, fares and other transportation options. We're on a strict budget and is currently considering the cheapest option to get there. Thanks!

Hi,I am so sorry. I have no idea how to get there by public transport (bus). As I know, Borobudur Temple is far from Ratu Boko Temple. But Ratu Boko Temple is close to Prambanan Temple only 15 minutes by car. I suggest you go by bus to Prambanan Temple form Borobudur Temple, and continue your trip by motorbike taxi (gojek).
I think this is the cheapest way, I have no idea how much the fare is. But I guarantee it is not expensive, it will meet low budget traveler plan.
Yogyakarta people are nice, warm, friendly and helpful, the living cost is also low. I suggest you go there and continue your trip to Solo, next city where not so far from Yogyakarta. Only about 2 hours by car from Yogyakarta.
