The Sambisari Temple is a 9th century Hindu temple very close to Yogyakarta. It was a relatively recent discovery with archeological excavations and reconstruction completed in 1987. The Temple is not expensive, even for tourists, and kids are free. It would fill in a pleasant...More

Apart from Prambanan and Borobudur, Yogyakarta has a lot to see. One of which is sambisari temple. It is just amazing that an earthquake prone zone has so much which is preserved well and attracts tourism from across the world

This temple is several feet below the present ground level. Few tourists. Like all the Candis this is well maintained. Worth visiting.

Different from the tall massive temple complex you will normally see at Yogyakarta. This is below the ground level and flatter. Wont have rush and very cheap entry fee. Buy yourself fresh coconut water to refresh right outside the entrance

The temple was so nice, because it like 'underground' temple and it was in the centre of the area. The important thing is, the toilet not so far.. And also you must use something to covering your head from the sunlight

Beautifully restored temple near airport. It's worth visiting on the way to prambanan. Architecture is bit different and it's kinda sunken or below ground level. Like any place in Java, visit early or later in the day rather in the noon. That way you will...More

It is very accessible from the airport and you can drop by to this temple, as it is along the way to Prambanan. One thing I like about this place is, it is more serene, not so crowded, actually there are more chickens than people...More

Great architecture and history, not crowded so you can see it at your pace. A Hindu Sivalinga still exists through no prayers. Read the history before visiting. Great for photos

Visit this one first, before going to Prambanan, as it's smaller and less impressive. It won't be crowded though. There were more chickens than people when we dropped by.
