We had a very pleasant visit here. We asked for a guide at the information centre and got one. It was very nice to get a tour here. A must visit for every dutch tourist as it also explains our (to be not proud of) history at Indonesia.

You can see everything in about an hour.

This museum gives the history of Indonesia focusing on who was in power. The story is told through dioramas which are very detailed. There are descriptions in English so I could understand what each diaroma is about.

Really enjoyed my experience here.

This was the former Dutch fort, now a museum dedicated to Indonesian independence (which began in the Yogyakarta region). The buildings aren't much to look at, but inside are galleries showing the steps to nationhood. I found the exhibits a bit odd: there were life-sized mannequins depicting various scenes, and in other places small scale dioramae. That said, there were good descriptions in Indonesian and English on the wall to understand the context. This is a perfect place to go to learn about independence, and the kids probably will like the displays if they don't get freaked-out by the sometimes creepy figures. Entry fee is 10,000 rupiah.

I don’t know if I missed it but I did not find a lot of information about the fort itself.
I did enjoy some of the information inside the buildings, very informative. The aircon is nice to have.

It's a must visit place when you're in Malioboro. If you wanna relax and stay away from the crowded Malioboro, this museum is an option. You can take a break and enjoy the air-con in the museum. They have some buildings you can enter. There's a lot to read and see. The buildings remind you of the Dutch Colonialism. I didn't really enjoy because there was an event when I was there. They had like a bazaar or something. There's a lot of people selling things, walking around. It's affordable and very easy to reach from Malioboro.

I visited this museum cos just wondering what inside and willing to learn again the history of Indonesia. In fact, the museum was authentic Dutch building I got something new. I visited many museums and this place has its uniqueness. I learned the independence day, the history of UGM and other. Well this museum is good and the entrance ticket is super cheap IDR 5.000,- per pax. You can take picture anywhere you want and its very instagramable.

The museum is located on the same road of the busy Malioboro street, and just next to Pasar Beringharjo. The admission fee is Rp 10,000. Open from 7:30am to 4pm and close on Monday. There are 4 exhibition halls mainly on the history of independence struggle of Indonesia till the modern day. It is a really a good place to learn the history of the country.

For a very cheap price (like $1.50 USD) you can go through the museum which has really creative and well done dioramas of the history of Indonesia. There are English descriptions on all the different pieces which was really nice.
I think stopping at this museum is a must if you are going through Yogyakarta in order to better understand the history of Indonesia and all the hardships this country went through to get to where it is today.

I have not found to much information of the history of Indonesia beyond knowing it was a Dutch colony, invaded by Japan in WWII and the battle for independence. The museum gives a more detailed written narrative in Indonesian and English about the major events in Indonesian history through a series of simulations using diorama to portray the story.
From a historical perspective it's very interesting although the diorama is a little boring in its presentation. The fort has been kept in good condition and the buildings are interesting.
