Nice place, many destinations to go to. Food, snacks, coffee, mall, you name it. You can explore even each kind of food genre there. The only downside is that the Blok M Square area itself is still dirty compared to the MRT area around it, so keep up with the cleanliness, please.

While not as glamorous as Plaza Senayan, Blok M Square is more representative of the country. Variety on offer.

Jayakarta is full of fancy malls but I prefer the local old fashioned Blok m square.
It's much cheaper with lots of stalls and great atmosphere and where the locals go.
Bargains to be had and get ready to haggle it's fun and you'll enjoy the prices .
Lots of food and good coffee in the surrounding streets

Even prior to the existence of Jakarta's MRT, I've always taken a personal liking to visiting Blok M Square. It's a hidden gem for foodies like me. You can go at 6AM to get a glimpse of what Indonesian's typically have for breakfast or snacks - from those who have a sweet tooth [pic], to those with savory cravings, all the way to a more filling portion, such as bubur ayam, lontong sayur and nasi gulai.

By 10:30am, the food stalls and food courts have opened to cater for the mall's tenants and visitors alike. Yes, there are the fast food meals like A&W and HokBen. But there's also the luscious Soto Lamongan and my favorite, Sate Mak Syukur - a Sumatera form of satay that has been in business since 1941.

As the sunset disappears at 6:30pm, the parking area yet again becomes a maze of Indonesian food. This time to fill in the need for dinner and hearty meals. That's when you see the amazingly array of home cooked meals, offered by home cooks. Each variety of food is placed on a aluminium tray and the food seller will offer you a plate of white or red rice. Then, it's your responsibility to pick what proteins, veggies and condiments you want to go with your rice. She'll offer you sambal (chili paste) to go with that and then you go pick your table. It's a very short table, on a floor mat and you're basically like on an evening picnic. [Word of caution though - only try if your tummy is used to food adventures and/or you've been staying/living in Jakarta for over six months.]

In addition, surrounding Blok M Square is "Little Tokyo", where you can find authentic Japanese food. But this doesn't come alive until 6:30pm.

Now with the MRT, Blok M Square actually does a lot of themed food bazaars. The office workers are the most to benefit from this. Take the MRT at 12:00pm sharp, get to Blok M by 12:10, walk a bit, eat and spend maximum IDR 50,000, walk back, take the MRT back and you're at your desk by 1pm.

Anyway... if you're at Blok M Square... don't forget the must try and famously Indonesian "Filosofi Kopi" (Coffee Philosophy). Coffee is good

Blok M Square is a trade center, which is to say that it is more downmarket than if one was to go to a shopping center. Rather than established brands, the tenants here are various vendors and merchants selling their products mostly clothing-related.

One thing that differentiates Blok M Square from other trade centers is the fact that it contains a lot of jewellery vendors. My wife and I bought our wedding rings here and we have always recommended our friends to go here for their matrimonial purposes.

Blok M Square is located within the Melawai Integrated Area which has some suspicious-looking establishments targeting Japanese patrons as well a Japanese Supermarket by the name of Papaya.

This used to be a vibrant entertainment area for a drink, bite, socialise and adult entertainment patpong style...
Its reduced to a few closed off and to cater for far east customers behind closed doors..

This shopping mall was developed in seventies and still very popular for the locals. A authentic place where you can shop and eat as locals with the 'local prices'. A must visit when you get board by luxurious shopping malls of Jakarta.

Blok m square mall is the last stop on the transjakarta busway. The mall is relatively small compared to most of the other malls. The most interesting shop I found was up on floor 1f where there is are batik clothes and indonesian handicraft which is worth a visit.
