Controversies aside, this tour without a doubt will provides you a totally different experiences compared to the other available tours that Jakarta can offers. Ronny Anneke Betty and Pauli, one family and their good friend, run this tour as a way of showing their identity being a true resident of the rapidly growing urban city we called as Jakarta. They... This tour is a must if you want to see behind the typical tourist spots. We walked in slums, spoke with the people living there, toured the harbor by skiffs using the local transportation and make shift ferries. As suggested, we brought toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, pencils, pens, etc. to pass out. The people are kind, and the children sang for... More

I went on a tour of the villages of the poor after visiting similar places in Mumbai and Rio. The tour was really interesting as you get to see the other side of Jakarta, away from the high rises and hustle and bustle. You gain a real insight into these people's lives, interacting with locals and especially the children who... More

I have to admit I was conflicted when I saw Jakarta Hidden Tour as it is a fine line between being supportive and exploitative. I did wish to show my young son this side of things so I did persist and I am completely glad we did. Ronny was so accommodating in finding a way for us to visit when... More

Ronny showed us the contrast between a developing Jakarta and the poor living conditions of those living in squatted settlements close to the old city and harbour. The tour was informative, I definitely learnt a lot. However, it remains unclear to me how exactly he needs 50% of the mandatory $50 donation for the 'administration' of a small family-run organisation.... More

Prepare to have your comfortable world shaken. Ronny and Anneke walk you through communities where they have built decades-long relationships of trust with the residents. Ronny works to bring awareness and help to the most marginalized people in Jakarta.

I recently joined 2 others with Ronny and Anneke on a tour of some of the most impoverished areas of Jakarta. Throughout the tour Ronny and Anneke shared some of their vast knowledge of social issues in Jakarta. They are both passionate about helping those in need and trying to find ways to empower the powerless in a peaceful way.... More

Thank you so much Ronny, Anneke and team for your incredible dedication to the people of the slums of Jarkarta. You're work is truly inspiring and undoubtedly positively impactful. This is the true essence of tourism, connecting cultures from around the world through mutually beneficial experiences between human beings. The incredible warmth and friendliness of the people is powerful and... More

Brace yourself for this tour. You'll get as close to gut-wrenching poverty as you ever will on this earth. Ronny is doing an incredible service to the poor of Jakarta by exposing those of us who only see the destitute on sad TV commercials. You'll see how people live today like they did in the middle ages...in squalid, dark, damp... More

Joined Ronny and Annika's hidden Jakarta tours today. Having lived in Jakarta as a foreigner for almost a year now it was a good eye opener. Very insightful and interesting. Great to see how R and A support the community and in a respectful way introduced us to the communities. Can definitely recommend!
