You can visit fish market to choose your fresh fish but you'll be negotiated with the broker not with the merchant. After you've got your fish, you can choose the small restaurant to cook the fish. But not all restaurants are good mostly bad. They only wants your money and give you bad experiences.

This a Traditional & Fresh Seafood Market. So mostly we will meet the seller of the seafood such as fish, prawn, crab, all about seafood product. Since this is a traditional market the area is not modern and a bit smelly. For Local it's so fun to spend time here and get good seafood stuff. Here there are some restaurant... More

It smells?!!! Uh, yeah its a fish market. People are poor and want to sell their fish to do for their families so you might find them pushy. It is a different country and this is their way. I was pleased to see a few happy well fed dogs and a cat, but the BEST part was that a Chinese... More

Of course it's smelly and it's dirty and there are rats running around. But I find it fascinating, so many people, so crowded, so many sorts of fish and seafood. And than the restaurants where they cook the fish and seafood, simply delicious and CHEAP!!! In May 2014 I'll go to Jakarta and will visit the market again.

Since it's a fish market, so the smells will kill you. Also the road to go there is wet and dirty and of course.. stink.. This is the pier where you can go to Thousand Island by backpacking style.

it's messy...a lot of premans..the smell isn't good...the salesman isn't polite...all of the street is dirty...smelly...they cheat in price & weight...also they can flush your body with the dirty water from the tank fish just because you're awkward of the situation...very impolite..you have to bring your servants to buy there...use boot or sandal...bring your own plastic...don't use jeans..use short pant...if... You can buy fish at the dirty fish market. You have to bargain. Sometimes the road to go there also flooded with sea water and smelly.

If you like the fish smells and like traditional market, here's the very right place to go. we can go across the market with seafood seller. We also could get the fish grilled in traditional ambience. Lots of otak-otak also here, with bumbu kacang :)
