Selamat Datang means welcome. The Selamat Datang Monument is located in the center of a roundabout. It is recommended to visit at night due to beautiful view

It’s a nice monument and the surrounding tall buildings are also impressive. During the day it’s a very busy junction with traffic but thanks to the traffic lights there are enough breaks to allow you to see the monument properly and give some photo opportunities. There’s plenty of other things to make a walk to the area worthwhile, such as the shopping malls, but I also found it entertaining observing the adjacent police station which was a hive of activity.
It’s a welcoming area and doesn’t feel too touristy, so well worth taking the time to pass through.

We finally (literally) walk by foot to this landmark. The famous fountain and monument that become one of Jakarta's landmark.
The place is within walking distance from Bundaran HI MRT station. That is where we came from. Lots of street hawkers that sells snacks and drinks, many pedestrians too enjoying the attraction.
The road itself considered as very busy road, many cars not to mention heavy traffic most of the time. And what not to be forget is also the air pollution. Maybe it'll be better if we visit the monument on Sunday during car free day so less air pollution that is.

Just stood in the middle of main road in Jakarta it is not common to be around during a day time because the traffic and police wouldn't let you to be close by otherwise you could take a picture from pedestrian area almost 10 - 20 meters away from the icon. Beautiful at night and also during a sunset just right to the icon

This monument is certainly impressive, but what it is not is accessible! Due to the sheer quantity of traffic circling the monument (or is at a key junction) it is impossible to get up close to it.

Stayed in a hotel close by, and thus had a view of the monument and the roundabout it occupies .The monument is surrounded by a fountain and the traffic swirling around the roundabout mirrors the Arc De Triomphe in Paris for automobiles.Add the proximity of several major hotels, and two large shopping malls ,and you get a lot of people added to the picture.
The best time to see it is Sunday mornings when , as cars are banned, apart from the local Transjakarta buses, the roads become one gigantic pedestrian walkway and the kerbs become filled with stalls cooking food and selling all kind of objects .

One of statues built in 1960s as city beautification project in preparation for the Asian Games IV. The fountain has been renovated few years ago, adding colorful lights and pedestrian to make this city iconic mark standing out. It's quite pretty to see from one of the surrounding high rise buildings, especially in the evening.

Constructed in the 1960's for the Asian Games IV, the statue depicts a male and female waving (ie. welcoming) people to Jakarta. I trust emphasis will be placed on this statue as the Asian Games returns in 2018 . . .
Best vantage point: I prefer the evening view of the statue from a vantage point. Pick your favorite spot to see the statue.
