    Unexpected treasure
We stopped here on a day tour or Jakarta. It was our last stop after being awake for 48hours so we were almost going to miss it. I am so glad we didn’t Aldy was so passionate about his craft and so generous with his time. He explains how he makes the different puppets and gives you a quick puppet show in return he asks for nothing (there is no pressure to buy anything). We were so tired on our first trip we decided to go back after a rest. Again we got to witness another puppet show and bought some beautiful puppets at a very good price. Thank you Aldy my family and I loved visiting your studio and we will treasure our puppets.

Wonderful opportunity to discover Indonesian culture
We went to this puppet studio right after visiting the Wayang museum thanks to a suggestion by a local tourist guide. We were quite skeptical in the beginning but once we entered the studio we changed our mind. The owner explained to us how he creates the puppets in detail… you can tell he’s very passionate about his job. We even had the opportunity to actually see the puppet show! Such a great insight into Indonesian culture, in English and for free. If you have the opportunity, you should definitely pay a visit, you won’t be disappointed ;)

A must for anyone interested in the art of traditional puppetry
We had a wonderful time visiting Aldy's studio. It was the absolute highlight of our time in Jakarta. The Wayang museum is currently closed for renovations which we were not aware until we arrived. Around the corner, on a second story is this wonderful studio that we had planned to visit after going to the Wayang. Aldy educated us on all the craftsmanship involved in creating shadow puppets, wooden puppets and masks. Aldy took great care to show how they were all made. There are many examples in the studio and many items you can choose to purchase to support his art. Aldy put on a 10 minute shadow puppet show for the people visiting at the time. It was so entertaining and joyful. We ended up purchasing a few items that the studio can ship home to us. We loved visiting this studio.

Outstanding experience- if you’re truly interested in the core Javanese culture this is the place to go! Aldy and his small family business show you everything from the handmade production of the puppets up to a short Wayang performance held by Aldy himself! You may buy beautiful new and antique puppets of all sizes, he will even ship them overseas. A must destination to visit in Jakarta!

Went here yesterday as part of a city tour and had a really good visit. We were shown how much skill and work goes into every puppet and told a lot about the history and development of the shows. The puppeteer put on some small shows for us which highlighted the skills used to bring the puppets to life. The walls are adorned with puppets over 100 years old

The Makutharama Wayang Puppet Studio is a great cultural experience in Jakarta's old town district. We were all truly mesmerized by the sheer quality of Aldy's explanation of puppetering and the puppet construction process. This is truly a must see experience for anyone visiting Jakarta! Aldy is kind, caring, and a true showman!

We visited Aldy's studio on a city tour and loved our experience. Aldy walked us through the process of making shadow puppets and then was kind enough to do a mini shadow puppet show right there in his studio. This is a fantastic experience for anyone who wishes to connect with the local culture and tradition.

Today we visited Makutharama Puppet Studio near the museum Wayang.

Aldy, the owner, gave us a beautiful teaching on how the shadow puppets are made. And what an artist he is! This must be one of the few places where shadow puppets are still hand-made.

At the end we were treated to a 10' shadow puppet show😀.

We met Aldy on the street outside his puppet studio. He sat and spoke to us and invited us in to see his work. He was so passionate and talented and took so much care to explain everything to us. He even put on a show for us in his workroom! It was absolutely beautiful and an incredibly special experience for us on our first day in Jakarta. We will never forget it.
Thank you Aldy!

Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! I visited this place as part of a city tour and it was a very good stop. You learn a lot about the process of making puppets and its part in Javanese culture. I even got to see some puppets in action and bought some souvenirs in the end. Do visit!
