Had high expectations based on reviews. Nice but not great or particularly unique handicrafts. Prices are high-not matching quality. Some bags, puppets, very little jewelry and rugs which are not high quality (but “authentic” if that’s what you want).

I tried to visit them twice during my stay. I tried calling them ahead but the numbers don’t seem to work. So I went there twice and they were always closed. Would be great if they could update their information online to allow customers to check whether they are open ahead of time

Bags, puppets, stuffed animals, paintings, jewelry, etc. Not inexpensive, but good quality and good cause. Hard to find! With your back to the mosque walk straight ahead, through what is often a market, down a street that looks like it ends at the entrance to the Heritage Hotel. Keep walking! Dropenling will be on your left.

This store sells handcrafted items. It was the only store I was able to find in Lhasa that sold fabric/textile handcrafts. Most other stores sell identical junky items. The prices were not bargains - I paid $42 US for a charming stuffed fabric monkey that I fell in love with. Many adorable handcrafted stuffed animals. Accepts Visa credit card.

As other reviews say, just find the Heritage Hotel (near the mosque) and the store is across the street. There appears to be another branch on Beijing Road but I could never find it open.

In Sep 2017, purchased Carpet and its already deteriorated. I moved the carpet to another room, where no traffic and still the disintegration continued. I now rolled up the carpet and not using it. Waste of Money. I agree with reviews posted by E.L.
Material is of very low quality and avoid purchasing carpets. Other items purchased are good and worth except Carpet. DO NOT BUY carpets

I love to buy handmade dolls and stuffed animals in the places that I have visited. I bought 3 monks playing instruments and I love them. They are cloth dolls and I feel like they are blessing my home! Our guide brought us to this place and I was very happy with the items. The shopkeepers speak English and they take credit cards. The restroom is a little gross even though it is part of a hotel, so skip it if you can!

The shop is run by Tashi, a Tibetan who has travelled overseas and works with local artisans across Tibet to execute on the range of handicrafts.

There is a posted no negotiations on prices but we found the pricing to be very fair. We got our Christmas shopping done here. We picked up a range of adorable felt and wool souvenirs, door covers, cotton cushion covers and wall hangings with Tibetan designs. We found a range of items for adults and kids. Loved this place!

The store is down an alley in old town near the Muslim Mosque. Not sure we would be able to find it on our own, your Tibetan guide brought us there and I’m very glad.

Agrre it is Difficult to locate as broght out by others in their review. Some tips which helped me to locate the shop with less difficulty:
a) If you mention Green Mosque or Mosque, difficult for locals to understand. Instead try ‘ Muslim Temple’, which locals understood and I was shown the direction to Mosque
b) On reaching the mosque ( since it’s domes are green and hence few call it green mosque)
take the road opp to mosque gate and you should sight Heritage Hotel and head towards the hotel and the hotel receiption will guide you. Just a minute walk from hotel.
c) While going towards Heritage Hotel, don’t ask from street side shops for direction as you will not get any help
d) Once you are in the shop, guys in the shop are very helpful in selecting without force . Their product and design manager even took me to 1st floor, where they do the weaving
e)They helped me picking up - carpet, jewelery, stuff dolls , cushion covers , leather hand bags
f) They accepted foreing credit card VISA and they charged extra for shipping to US.
g) Recived pkg in US after 3 weeks time as anticipated
h) Entire outfit at Dropenling doing excellent work in supporting Tibetan artisans which otherwise will vanish
j) Enjoined my shopping at Dropenling as I knew I am getting real Tibetan handicrafts and the money is reaching artisans without reaching middlemen. Also I am not paying for cheap knock offs.
l) I recommend this shop to friends and relatives. Given another opurtunity, will certainly shop at Dropenling ( They also have their branch small one in Bejing Road and they will bring you to main shop near mosque)
I wish everyone at Dropenling Best wishes for 2018. My thanks to their Product Design guy forgoing out of the way to help me

Regards

Yoga

We were taken there by our Tibetan guide. I really love the idea of supporting local craft men / women in a responsible way. We purchased many items at this shop that I quite enjoyed (items as shown in the picture already posted by another reviewer). We like the colors of the rugs displayed at the shop, and purchased two and have them shipped to us. First of all, I don’t know if they were exactly the ones we picked, so that left me feeling somewhat cheated. And the rugs deteriorated so quickly, so it was made of very poor quality of material. We left the rug in an area with almost no traffic so mainly to appreciate the aesthetics of the piece, but I found the material disintegrated in a matter of a couple of months. So enjoy the experience and many of the items there, but try to resist taking their rugs home....... they are NO GOOD!

This lovely little shop was across the road from our Yak Hotel with another branch in the Muslim quarter that we did not visit. They have authentic Tibetan handicrafts & the artisans share in the profits. My sisters & I bought several items & the shop keeper called the other store to get more items that we wanted from their inventory. They take credit cards, too! If you want Tibetan made items this is the place to go as most of the things you will find are made in Nepal, India or China proper.
