Located at the foot of the Purple Mountain, this palace was built in the 1930s and was once considered the No. 1 Mansion in the Far East. The palace’s exterior has a traditional Chinese style with its roof covered by green tiles and on top of the tiles more than 1,000 phoenixes are carved. However, as soon as you walk through the front door, you see luxurious Western-style rooms throughout the mansion. There are many displays of historical documents and artifacts at this place that history buffs would find interesting.

Interesting and historically significant 'palace' (more like a small mansion really) furnished as it was in the 1930s when Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling lived there. Signs are in Chinese, take a translation app ...

I paid separately from the rest of the Zhongshan area for this - 30 RMB.

The building is well preserved and full of antiques. Paintings in the restaurant are beautiful. It definitely helps you get a feel for the life in the second decade of the last century.

Just like a mini museum to display the story of Soong Mei Ling. The palace furniture still well maintain. A very classical building at Nanjing

Great! I learned so much about an inspirational Chinese woman (and her husband) who had strong ties with the USA..... This architectural treasure does not take much time to visit. For someone who is interested in history and willing to 'absorb' the exhibits and imagine themselves in the days of the early 1900's, it's a really interesting place. I felt like I was on the movie set, of a world war 2 movie.

I found the location a little bit difficult for an English speaking person because of the little information that was in English. The palace itself is pretty impressive and was a nice glimpse into what living at this level used to be like. It certainly has some cool features and design. I would say if you are on your way in this direction a quick walk through was worth it.

What was left is as it is. At least not everything able to be taken away by its former owner.

As in present times, not that many people can afford to build such a living place, with such fine quality, and ample grounds.

As one is driving up to the palace, it has a very serene and green surroundings. Very peaceful, when you avoid all the tourists traffic.

Coming here, apart from knowing the history, especially when you have a guide to guide you through the place, one can walk around and feel the place, and dream of what is it like life back in the 1920s -1940s, for the rich and famous/infamous.

This museum is a history book about the legendary Madam Chiang. It offers a glimpse of the life of this important historical figure with a good collection of the artwork she had done. I was impressed by the aerial photo of the house. When the leaves turn yellow in the fall, the aerial view shows the design of a necklace with the house as the pendant. Very ingenious indeed!
