Exiting from the North Gate at Jiming Temple leads one to the Old City Wall.

Looks like a less grand version of the one in Xi'An, this 古城墙 with its unique 4-tier structure, is said to be the longest brick city wall in the world at 35km. I'm not sure how that works against the Great Wall, perhaps the longest complete wall. Entrance fees at RMB30 per person, no pre-booking required, in fact it's probably the least crowded attraction all week. There's a small museum at the top that provides the history of this wall, from how it was constructed to how it was restored. Along the path up, look down and you'll find some original bricks with engraving, indicating the person responsible for making and laying the bricks in that section back then.

You also get a superb panoramic view of Xuanwu Lake from this vantage point.

It’s amazing how quiet and relaxing the walk can be after a few hundred meters from the entry point. The walk along the wall and around the lake is just beautiful.

It is the largest city wall-themed museum in China, testifying to the past and present of the world’s largest city wall system -- the Ming City Wall in Nanjing. Nearly 700 city wall bricks are arrayed in an awe-inspiring formation in the “Majestic City Walls” exhibition hall. Through restored scenes, digital sand tables, multimedia exhibits, and other means, the museum allows visitors to experience the connections between people and the city wall.

Finding the entrance for me was really difficult. Should you go to the other side of the wall when you are in Yueya Lake Park from one of the streets that passes the wall. If you search for the "Zijing technology park" building, one of the gates is exactly close to that. The ticket is only 5RMB and available in all gates. There are many briks with names on them. Nice river landscapes, many trees on both sides of the wall, and the beautiful Nanjing city!
The only problem I had is that the same as many places in China, all vending machines work only with mobile payments, and I can not buy even a bottle of water. Take a bottle of water with yourself while you stay some hours on the wall and will need it.

Comparable to Xi'ian City Wall, we were amazed by the architecture and history of the place. Went for a long walk in both directions and also visited the City Wall Museum nearby. Great way to spend a morning or afternoon in Nanjing.

The wall is amazing! We joined at several locations - plan ahead, it can be tricky to find a gate where you can join the wall. The history of the wall is amazing to learn about and it was wonderful to walk on the wall.

The wall is pretty tall for a city wall and has some great views of the xity. We first saw the wall in the Ming Tomb area and climbed on to it in the Xuanwu Lake area near Jimingsi metro station.

The price to get on the wall is 30 RMB and it offers some really good views of the surrounding areas. Not many bathrooms up there so do plan to go before going on or wait until the end. The path is uneven so bring a good pair of shoes.

We took a day trip to Nanjing from Shanghai and saw parts of the wall in multiple locations. It was great to have personal guides who spoke English and could give us the history. We visited shortly after the Chinese New Year/Lantern Festival and many lanterns were still up on the wall. Many were very large, which was surprising to us. We were told that brickmakers from across the country made the bricks and each brick had the maker's mark on it. If a brick arrived broken, the brickmaker had a second chance to make the bricks, and if they arrived broken a second time they were most likely executed.
