Top ways to experience Mong Kok Market
The area
Neighbourhood: Mong Kok
It’s one of the highest density districts in the world, so come to Mong Kok prepared for action. Home to every market, restaurant and shopping arcade imaginable, Mong Kok is the one-stop shop to satisfy all your shopping needs. Dust off your finest negotiation skills and dive into the bartering frenzy. Similar retailers will conveniently congregate in the same area forming easy to remember references such as “flower street” and “sneakers street.” Here you will also find various local delicacies being served at street snack shops or hole-in-the-wall restaurants. One reliable rule of thumb: the smaller the place, the better the food.

There are quite a few street markets around the Mongkok District. One that is interesting is found on Yin Chong Street, a short 150 metre long street linking Fa Yuen Street to the west to Kwong Wah Street to the east.
This is a neat hawker street, lined with stalls selling fruits, veggies, dry foods and good and other consumables and some cheap household items. It is not geared towards tourists but caters to local area residents instead.
You can find other street markets around the Kowloon Peninsula and elsewhere in Mongkok that are similar to the Yin Chong Street Market. However, this one is conveniently located for those exploring the market scene in this area of the district.

For those who are not interested in crowds you should avoid this spot. However it is well worth a visit to experience something Hong Kong is famous for. Buy some souvenirs and haggle with the sellers.

Lots of stalls. Very busy in the evenings you can buy almost anything but only if you’re willing to buy the goods then bargain otherwise some of the female vendors can get really angry! Best to only look until you’re sure to buy. You can bargain as much as 25% of the original asking price.

Super busy/crowded, they also don‘t have fixed prices so you can get some nice deals however they have all the same/similar goods not that much choices.
Still fun to experience the mood at night.

Busy, clean, hundreds of stalls on a street with no vehicles-we visited twice, once in the rain, did. I say busy . You can buy just about anything in the market place, lots of vendors, many selling the same item. Prices mean nothing, this is bargin hunters .we found if you did not get your price they frequently come after you when you walk away agreeing to your price. Beware, lots of trade names you know, the item are fake. A Mont Blank pen for10.00, right , never did figure out the operating hours, seems to get going around noon and I was told it goes to around 10 pm daily.we felt safer in the daylight. It is a fun way to spend a few hours.

The streets are interesting to find things you might have forgotten existed. From old mobile phones, to record players this has a little bit of everything just to browse around.

The Mong Kok market is very interesting and definitely a cultural experience to have, especially at night. It’s very large, very crowded and you can easily loose your bearings/sense of direction in there. Personally I think the night markets in Taipei are superior.

Excellent street shopping from 11am onwards till midnight. Stalls are manned by women mostly and hence called Ladies Market. Perfect place to shop magnets, bags(1st copy), wallets, night suits, power Banks, Mobilecovers n small gifting items. Make sure you bargain well. Generally start with 1/4 the price quoted...it sounds funny but if you are a smart shopper you will get it at 1/3rd rate or lil more.

This area of Hong Kong is a great way to wonder the streets for a few hours. During the day the bustle is still high energy. Not only are there street vendors but there are huge malls to venture into. For me, I choose to see the uniqueness of the streets and what everyone has to offer outside of the major chain stores. There are two ways of getting here: walk or take the train. If you take the train there are four stops that will easily get your right into Mong Kok area: Yau Ma Tei Station, Mong Kok Station (right in the middle!), Prince Edward Station, Mong Kok East Station. If you walk or take the ferry, where you'll get dropped off around the Hong Kong Cultural Center, it wil take aboutr 25-30 minutes to walk up to Mong Kong. If you've got the right shoes on I'd say walk!

This place is crazy busy and if you don’t mind being asked if you want to buy anything every 30 secs for every stall you pass, then enjoy! It’s a good place for a bargain or too but I left with a bit of a headache, ( I like to enjoy looking at stuff without being pestered and take my time) each to their own.
There’s also some nice little food places around this area if you get hungry from all the shopping!
It’s worth a visit even if you are staying the other side of the river. It’s about a 2 min walk from the MTR
