...of the small Man Mo temples in HK, with beautiful areas and decorations around. Its location in amongst a bustling market area is also pretty great. Won’t take long to wander round but definitely worth finding if you’re in the area.

The most interesting historic landmark in Tai Po is the Man Mo Temple on Fu Shin Street. This traditional Chinese temple was originally built in 1891 and was an important centre of administration for the surrounding Tai Po markets that thrived and continue to exist in the the surrounding area today.
The building for the past century has taken on the traditional role of being a place of worship and is dedicated to the God of Literature (Man) and the God of War (Mo). Man Mo as been a Declared Historical Monument in Hong Kong since 1984 and was restored in 1985.
What you will find is a small garden courtyard which you can enter from Fu Shin Street Wet Market. The temple itself features Qing Dynasty architecture and temple features including numerous hanging incense, lanterns, incense burners, shrines with various deity figures, ancient drum and bells, delicately carved wooden furnishing as well as a traditional centre courtyard, typical of numerous Chinese temples throughout Hong Kong from this time period.
The Ma Mo Temple is well maintained and an interesting attraction to see if you are planning to explore this area of Tai Po. It can be conveniently combined with visits to the Fu Shin Street Wet Market just outside the temple as well as the Hong Kong Railway Museum just a few minutes away by foot.

Don't do a special trip it's an hour and you've seen everthing. It's near the railway station and above the market.
A temple to two gods .
It's very pretty and the candles glow light your way. The smell of incense draws you in. It's very small so there is a limit to how many can go in at once.
There are paintings, pottery and statues and symbols to the gods.
A priest talked to us in English and very helpful.

We had visited the famous Man Mo Temple in HK and we came across this second one so we had a quick visit. We had seen so many temple and this one just looked like all the others. No need to make a special trip here, but take a quick look if you are visiting the market or Railway Museum.

This temple to two different gods (like the other Man Mo temple in Hong Kong) is full of clouds of incense from the large spirals hanging from the ceiling. These also drop ash on people below - so watch out if wearing something smart.
Nice place - just not for those with any problems with smoke or allergies to the scents used in incense.

Tai Po's Man Mo Temple nestles around a vibrant local market and is midway between Tai Po Market and Tai Wo MTR stations. It is perhaps less visited than its counterpart in Central but is equally politically siginificant. It was the venue of the rural committee and marked the development of the old Tai Wo Market. The present temple worships the Gods of Literacy and Martial Arts.

Active in use temple, bit out of the way, and authentic for that. Clearly used by the locals - I think I was the only tourist present.

I live in Tai Po!
Man Mo Temple is located among old residential building in Tai Po. Therefore you will meet local people and see local markets around.
The temple is real historic site of Chinese tradition. It is not big.
Surely you will visit the Railway Museum nearby. Eating is not a problem around.

In the middle of a busy local market, I like to stop in here to relax on the benches for a few minutes or light some incense purchased from the sellers inside the doorway. The Temple is often filled with billows of smoke rising from huge coils of incense, making great pictures. It's always nice to be reminded of Hong Kong's traditional past while shopping the local goods.

This temple is within the Tai po outside market street. It has more atmosphere than the more popular Man Mo temples being smaller. The incense coils make the air heavy. It has undergone recent renovation. There is a small garden at the front with some benches which make a welcome rest spot. The busy market outside is very local and sells almost everything.A contrast to other Tourist sites.
It is not signposted well and a a little walk from the Mtr but worth it.
