To most visitors of Central this rectangular modernist building built in the 60’s is just an odd background to the Cenotaph and an administrative office with no special interest. Not correct. The City Hall complex is surprisingly larger than it looks. It includes a locally famous place for dim sum (Maxim’s, on the 2nd floor accessible by lift), a concert... More

Hong Kong is not drab blue jackets, more bicycles than cars; well maybe about equal. Hong Kong City Hall is of an architecture that is modern to the eye. A lot of events are held at City Hall. They have a flotilla of flat bottom sampans, ferries on Victoria Harbour. Skyscrapers along the shore. Hong Kong has more than 600... More

I loved this new area of the city being created here. The architecture is stunning especially the CEOs office. The city Hall unfortunately had the People's Liberation Army separating it from the CEOs office is a bit of a statement I think. However this is new HK/ China 2 systems reality. It leaves you in no doubt however how this... More

I was thinking this might be a building of historical significance or at least be interesting-looking, but alas, it's just another sterile, modern building.

Hong Kong City Hall is one of the colonial buildings in Hong Kong. Concerts and shows are often held at City Hall. Hong Kong City Hall is conveniently located in Central.

Each spring, the city hosts the annual Hong Kong Arts Festival, making use of various venues around the city including City Hall's concert hall for a wide variety of performances ranging from opera, ballet, concerts, theatre, drama, contemporary art amongst other performance types. This year we were treated to a lovely piano performance by Russian, Mikhail Rudy, who provided the... More

This review is more for clarification as it may be confusing in hearing people say go to City Hall for lunch or dinner. What they really mean is go to Maxim's Palace for dim sum and food on a trolley, etc. etc. it is located in the old city hall building, also know as Edinburgh Place. Once you arrive at... More

If you like Dim Sums, you have to try them at teh Hong Kong City Hall! The waitresses will come along with fresh made dim sums in different tasts and you also have to try the sweets after lunch. Bring at least an hour of time, because you will have wait for about a quarter of an hour to be... More

Staying in Central

Neighbourhood Profile
Central
When people think of Hong Kong, most imagine movies with famous skyscrapers dominating the skyline. The area widely known as Central is the major financial hub and entertainment district, which truly lives up to the saying, “work hard, play hard.” Bars stay open late into the night and there just happens to be a street party every weekend. Although everything seems to be operating at lightning speed, Central is full of quiet, hidden gems. Nestled between office towers are wet markets and some of the city’s oldest restaurants dating back to the 1960s. Feeling a bit overwhelmed? Retreat from the crowds by exploring beautifully restored historical buildings and even a green oasis of botanical gardens.
