Had a good day visiting Lantau Island. We were on an organised tour. The cable car ride up was great. Had a very good vegetarian lunch in the monastery and then explored the big Buddha. Tai O fishing village was interesting but unfortunately no pink dolphins on the boat ride. Scared away by the bridge construction they think.

The cable car is a fun ride. You get marvelous views of the airport. I chose the one with the glass bottom, which is definitely worth the extra money. We went to see the Giant Buddha from there, which was a lot of fun. Nice place to eat and relax.

The big Buddha on Lantau is well worth a visit but note there is quite a climb up steps if you want to get up close & personal! Note, the cable car is out of operation until mid 2017. We travelled by ferry from HK island & No 2 bus & then took an alternative bus to the airport side... More

It is a must watch place. The island is very beautiful, peaceful and serene with a huge Buddha statue. The best thing is the 40minutes ropeway ride to reach the island. The view is just awesome.

At Lantau Island the view are Amazing with fresh air. It's a good place for relax. A very huge Tian Tan Buddha at Lantau Island, which is worth the long journey to visit the Laantau Island. After the Tian Tan Buddha pray we take the cable car out from the island and stop at the Citygate outlets mall for shopping.

We were in Hong Kong a couple of weeks ago and loved being on Lantau Island. I have reviewed a few places separately (e.g. NP Village, the Buddha, Tai O etc) so I won't elaborate on them; only giving four stars out of bitterness (!!!) because the Cable Car wasn't open when we went - it's under maintenance.
