On its own, this is not a must-see but it’s one of the older historical sights that make up the Wan Chai Heritage Walking Trail.
A set of 4 classic Chinese tong lau or shop-houses, it was built around 1888 and belongs to a period when Wan Chai was crowded and seedy, with an unsavoury reputation.
Tong lau houses like this were very common all over Hong Kong until the 1950s. Classical tong laus had shops and businesses at street level and then 2 or 3 floors of housing above. Widespread and largely unchecked development caused most of them to be torn down and this is one of the few very good, restored examples.
What makes this one unusual is its slightly concave façade. The deep balconies on each floor jut out over the pavement and form a gently curved and continuous verandah that overlooks busy Johnston Road.
Another point of interest is the original Woo Cheong Pawn Shop frontage. This has been deliberately retained when the building was restored. They have kept the green shopfront with its large panels of Chinese lettering around the entrance. In memory of the shop that operated here for many, many years the restaurant in the newly restored building is also called The Pawn.

I have been wanting to try The Pawn for the longest time, so when I read about their new brunch offer ($698 including champagne free-flow) we decided to give it a shot! The selection was more than amazing, with some cold platter, burrata, bruschetta, Ceaser salad to start with. Especially the beetroot shot is the highlight. After we chose 1 main course each and a dessert platter to share.More than enough food! The staff was very knowledgeable especially Ariel (if I am not wrong) and helped us top up with free-flow each time, very attentive service. Truly an outstanding experience. I was there to celebrate my birthday with my friends, they all love tha atmosphere with friendly staff. Next time will be back to dine in the terrace.

The Pawn is the informal name for the Guangzhou Verandah style Shophouse building at Nos. 60A-66 Johnston Road in Wanchai. This early 20th-century building is stop 7 on the self-guided Wanchai Heritage Trail for those interested in viewing 15 different historic buildings, marketplaces and other points of interest in this district on Hong Kong Island.

What you will find is a four-floor building with a delightful curved facade with verandahs on each floor. Historically, this was the location of important pawn shop businesses. These days there is a fairly popular British Gastropub called The Pawn that occupies a couple floors of the building, hence the informal name of the building. You'll also find an Italian bar and restaurant called La Piola on the ground floor.

Well have been to the Pawn a few time in the past and for the location use to be quite busy. I recent months not so due to economic situation. Anyways was not so busy on a friday night around 8.30pm. The vibe was nice with the DJ and we ordered a drink. My start is alway a Aperol spritz and my mate ordered a beer. Beer arrived within 5 minutes but i aperol spritz took 20minutes. When it did arrive it was watered down as the ice was melted. so i retured it and asked for less ice. Anyways my mate had already finished his drink when i got mine.
The point i am trying to make here is for 130 HKD absolutely not worth the mediocrity that came with it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there was no apology and for less you can get better value in central at ICHU or in the Land Mark. In these challenging times where busineses are suffering one would hope to get a decent product and just a little care.

Great bar in a central location, really nice upstairs in the old bar. Very good cocktails and a good variety of beers

Had a really nice couple of after dinner drinks in the very cool and chilled out bar with some great decor and neat spaces. Really enjoyed it.

We pre-paid for he Xmas dinner.
Then when we arrived, we were told the only free table was OUTSIDE even tough we pre-booked and PAID weeks ago. The restaurant was empty.

The server had no clue about wine. We asked to speak to the sommelier for a wine recommendation. No one came. The same server came back recommending some red wine telling us it's good but she never tried it herself before. It was 720 where all other wines were ~500/600.

3 courses. Super tiny! We were still hungry afterwards. The food itself was OK but didn't blow my socks off. I paid 4K! Felt totally ripped off.

When the bill came, I asked why my pre-payment wasn't deducted. They say they don't deduct it now causing my extra work to login and check my credit card bill.

Summary:
- very poor service
- no sommelier, no wine recommendation
- portions too small (3 course for 1k per person)
- feeling ripped off
- no view
- we had to sit outside freezing while the rest of the restaurant was EMPTY!

I will never go back there. I would not recommend it.

I usually go to the pawn after office hours to have a nice drink where I can enjoy a cigar. The smoking need to be on the terrace where you have tables, and sofa. The building is an old colonial building, and the interior is quite a modern design. The place can be pretty pack, but service is good, and prices are normal for Hong Kong
