Beautiful place to be in on a quiet day. Please be careful though if you plan to walk on the pier. Though it is strong, the currents of waves are sometimes very strong and might feel overwhelming.
Consider going around August September to see the sun set in front of the pier. In October, the sun sets further from the pier alignment.

I was staying on the eastern side of Hong Kong Island so decided a reasonably local attraction near Kennedy Town was a good option. I went early (about 9am) on a Monday morning via the MTR to Kennedy Town then walked up the hill (though there was a bus) to the stairs leading down to the sheds. There was only a couple of women there who were surprised that I had found it. There was no-one else and no-one was swimming. Being by myself and not being a strong swimmer I was hesitant to descend to the little pier so just wandered around the buildings, the little shrine and admired the view. It was something a bit different but I'm not sure it would be worthwhile making a special effort to see it. While the view once there is pretty, the walk there doesn't offer many sea views and is a bit industrial.

Maybe we chose the wrong time, but it was super busy.
People waiting patiently to take that shot.
Hmmm.
We did not.
We could not relax at all, and the view, though lovely, not something that is an absolute must in HK

Amazing spot to take pictures and watch the sun set, even if the whether is cloudy. However, I think it's not really meant to swim. There is no beach, no limitations. As the current is quite strong, even when holding the bars, you can get a bit hurt. Therefore, I think it can be dangerous.

Take the MTR all the way to Kennedy Town (Last station on the West bound line)
There is actually a bus stop right outside the swimming shed, so you could catch a bus from the MTR, just ask a local or the MTR ticket counter.
If you choose not to take the bus, be prepared to take a long walk, followed by an uphill hike to get there.
Once there, you'll have to enter through a gate into a fenced area, and descent down many flights of steep stairs.
There's not much in the area. Just the swimming shed, an abandoned hut, and a rock formation. Photos look good, but not worth it if you're pressed for time.

...you’ll find this small complex which includes some sheds in which to change and a small pier. The views out to sea are very nice and from I’ve seen are incredible at sunset, though apparently it can get very busy.

Popular Instagram spot an easy 10 minute walk from Kennedy Town. Come with a book and climb the nearby rocks to avoid the crowds queuing for pictures. A good place to watch the sunset and experience a bit of zen in the city.

It's quite a walk from the nearest town, or you can jump on a bus. There are about 50 steps down to the jetty, and another back up. Pre-spray insect repellent!

A quiet place to take awesome photos of sunset in Hong Kong. Easily accessible! you may walk there from MTR station or take buses or minibuses to go there.

Swim with local people old school style. Not much yo say it is just a jetty where you jump from. The currents here are very strong so ask the locals. You will be sharing the water with lots of large boats as this is one of the busiest stretches of water in the world. As a westerner you will be welcome after a few surprised glances. Best experience will be at sunrise
