Was passing though Chongqing on wy way home from a meeting in Chengdu and saw this in the lonely plant guide.

Small museum about the General that ran the allied operations in China during WW2. Was his house and was framed as a art deco house. Unfortunately it might have been built in teh late 30's but does not have the charm of art deco architecture. A small square bungelow, with no real charm.

Lots of pictures from his time in the area with both Chines and English text. Interesting to just wonder around and look at how he lived. The flying tigers museum is just over the road.

Don't forget to book you ticket on line before you attend!!

This museum looks great from the street… The reason I say this is TripAdvisor has the open days incorrect. This museum, the Flying Tiger’s museum across the street and in fact all museums in Chongqing are CLOSED on Mondays!!!!

This was the home base of the general during WW2. It is sort of a snapshot in time and well preserved. Beautiful location overlooking the river. Lovely gardens. I assume the view at that time would not have including the new freeways. Well worth a visit.

nobody but me there. tiny place for how much they charge. so quiet i had to ask the guy to turn on the light. Otherwise see nothing.
it was built on an odd location. guessed it had to hide away from Imperial Japan bomber planes.
Worth the visit if you ignore the attitude of the doorman.

On our way to board for our Yangtze River cruise we made a stop at the Stilwell Museum. Few in our party had heard of General Stilwell who was Commander-in-Chief of the Allied Forces in the China-Burma-India theater or the events depicted in this museum. He had lived in the first floor rooms of this house turned museum. The basement is filled with photos and captions in English. The museum is self guided. There is a not very good restroom on the premises. It was rainy when we were there and the pavement around the museum was very slippery.

This museum was basically a house at one time. General Stilwell was commander of US Forces in China during WW II. It was kind of interesting but our visit was spoiled by the heat. This building has no air conditioning and all the windows were shut and it was a sweat time. I would go back at another time of year and not summer.

I stopped here on my way to a Yangtze River cruise during a recent visit to the area. The museum is small and sparsely appointed with a lot of photos. The history around Stillwell's time in China is very interesting and you can learn about this history during your visit. If you are particularly interested in WWII and the way the war affected China, it is worth stopping here.

This home, high on the hill, was the home of General Stilwell during World War II. It is slated to his relationship with the communists but still interesting. The views of the city are amazing.

Visited the Stollwell museum today with friends. It was his residence during World War II. It is small but well worth the visit if you know history.

The Stilwell museum, which was the former home General Joseph Stilwell who was the commander of the US forces in China. His home had memorabilia from his service in China, that included furniture, maps, many photos and historical information. It wasn’t very large or extensive, and it didn’t take more than a half hour to go through it. Across the street was a museum dedicated to General Claire Chennault and the famous flying tigers. This was set up a little more like a museum and was very interesting. Like the Stilwell museum, we were there for only about a half hour. While I found this interesting, unless you have an interest in WWII some people may find it boring.
