This museum provides one with a good appreciation of the Chinese cultural roots. Entrance is free, just show a valid identification. There are exhibits from ancient pre-historic to imperial dynasties to communism times and how all these changes impact the way people live. Halls dedicated...More

We visited on 3rd August during the school holidays. When we arrived at the gate 15 minutes before the opening, there were about 40 people including children already in a queue. They had escalators inside the museum, but there were only two small lifts for...More

This is an interesting museum, and from the exhibits it seems more focus on daily life inside Beijing rather than others. When I visited exhibiting halls closed, that's a disappointment. But on one floor, they show a life cycle for the daily life in Beijing,...More

The museum is worth a short visit if you want to get out of the heat or an unexpected thunder storm. It is very loud with hundreds of school groups. I got a free audio guide, but then found that there are no numbers in...More

Worth a visit, the entry for the museum was free. I'm not sure if it was because of the day we went. The museum is clean and spacious. A lot of artefacts. However English descriptions are not very good.

Don’t be put off by the security queue.  It moves quite fast.  Highlights are on the top floor, with a series of rooms depicting life in Beijing through the centuries, some with short videos on a loop about Chinese customs (weddings, paying respects to one’s elders and so...More

It looks grand on the outside with her massive structure. However, the galleries are a little disappointing due to the lack of artifacts and scale.

Yes, I believe it does have storage lockers. I did not use one, but I believe I remember that some of my students used them, and I believe I saw them. The Museum web site does not seem to mention lockers, but you can check... More
