Located near a lake and a reservoir, this part of the Wall is called Yellow Flower Fortress and is a good place for hiking.Huanghuacheng Section of the Great Wall is a resort with mountains, lakes and theancient Great Wall. There are very few people to be found here, but it is becomingpopular with hikers. There is a lake and a crescent shaped reservoir nearby. And the lake breaks this sectionof the Great Wall into three segments naturally. Part of the wall is under water and becomes submerged at high tide. So the Huanghuacheng Great Wall is nicknamed "Water Great Wall".The scenery here is unique and will surprise you.

There is a steep climb to get to the chairlift. The ground is cobbled and can be trick. The chairlift is fast and not over crowded. ITS WORTH THE EFFORT.

Huanghuacheng Great Wall lies in Huairou, about 50km from downtown Beijing. Actually there are Huanghuacheng Great Wall UNDER WATER and Huanghuacheg WILD Great Wall in the same area. The one I recommend is the latter, Huanghuacheg WILD Great Wall. It has not yet been developed as a tourist spot, so it is very quiet and primitive with very few tourists.... More

Firstly getting there... We took the metro to Dongzhimen and from there the 916 bus to Huairou. The bus is clearly marked at the station. A few taxi drivers get on at various stops and tell you it's time to get off, just ignore them as it's the terminal stop you want. You then have to change to the H21... More

The great wall is close to a man-made lake here and offers wonderful views and hikes. We were there in late March and the hills were covered with cherry blossoms. Absolutely beautiful. We climbed up the wall and walked along it for several hundred yards, the followed trails to the lake and hiked along the lake with lovely views of... More

Climbing the great Wall is an unsurpassed experience. Try to avoid the spots that are overcrowded and try to come early.

This requires some planning and good skills to climb and walk the wall in ruins, not renovated. Although we only did a portion due to the heat and length of time longer to walk in ruins, you must plan a day to travel to it and back and walk it from Beijing with a driver who knows the area.
