This is my new favorite market street in Beijing. Skip the “Pearl Market” and “Silk Market” which are just big boring shopping malls. And come here instead - it gives you a taste of the real China. It is an outdoor, covered walking area with a mix of street vendors, flea market stalls, and small shops. It has Buddhist art, statues, trinkets, jewelry (mostly wood and stone), plants, live fish and animal stores, cricket and bird sellers (along with gorgeous wooden bird and cricket cages), and so much more. I love the stores with the Chinese philosopher stones.
The best thing is that this isn’t a tourist destination - so it is all locals - and no tourists in sight. Prices are better, but you still need to bargain. And don’t trust that anything is antique - it almost certainly isn’t.
If taking the metro, get off at Shilehe Station (lines 10 and 14). Go out exit D. When you get outside turn left and walk straight about 500 feet till you go under the raised train line (you’ll pass a flame statue). Then you’ll see it in front of you.

The first 30 stores all sell live fish, but once you get further back it is a warren of stalls. Wander around and enjoy.
