This section of the Great Wall is not as crowded as some other sections. We took the chairlift to the top which could be frightening for some. I understand there is a cable car to the top as well but our guide took us to...More

A restored section of the all. Beautiful views. Option of a gondola or chair-lift to take you to the wall, but be prepared for a lot of elevation change as you walk the wall. Mutianyu has fewer tourists than some other sections of the wall...More

We visited the Wall today at this spot and it was great. We took the chairlift up which was easy although a short wait. This part of the walk offers two options: a flat walk off to the left or steep steps to the right....More

To hike on Mutianyu Great Wall is not easy, steep steps from the foothill to the top, it takes at least 40 minutes to reach the great wall on the hill.

Wonderful area of the wall without the crowds. There is both a cable car, and a toboggan to ride down if the weather is good.

Hi all I am soon to be going to China with my girlfriend. We will be arriving in Beijing on a Thursday in the afternoon, and we will be leaving the following Tuesday. We arrive in the second last week in August. I have heard that summer months are busy (especially the weekends, so we can rule out going to Mutianyu on the Saturday and Sunday), so we will consider going the Friday or Monday. As we arrive on the Thursday, would it be relatively easy to navigate the bus route option on the Friday morning, or would you recommend we wait till the Monday as we will be more familiar with Beijing itself. Would it be too much to take on less than 24hrs after arriving in a completely new country with very little English? Also, everywhere says its hot in the summer, but as it will be near the end of August, will it be cooler? Is the wall still doable in the heat. We will be doing it no matter what (as its our only time to do it), but I don't want it ruined from being too hot. Has anyone done it around this time of year. I may just get some beers into me up there!!
