In 1368 AD, Mutianyu Great Wall was built by Xu Da who is the main general for Zhuyuanzhang in the Great Wall ruins of Northern Qi Dynasty. Linked to Gubeikou in the east and Juyongguan in the west, the section of the Great Wall is the military hub...more
We visited the great wall and had a great time, although it was quite misty/foggy you lost out on some of the great views from the wall itself. This is a strenuous day out and you need to be fairly active to fully enjoy the...More
On arrival at the Great Wall I was shocked about the amount of people climbing the steps of the first flights of stairs, but the further you go it's thinning out to only the fittest going all the way to Fortress 12... Take a water...More
If for no other reason the Great Wall has to be seen to be believed. The engineering feat alone to construct such a massive wall in its time is simply overwhelming. The wall is not for the feint hearted but you don’t have to attempt...More

The Great Wall should be on everyones bucket list. It is amazing. We went to a quiet part. Went up with a cablecar and down with a slide. The views were great and it was not busy at the time we were visiting.
I had the chance to visit while in Beijing on business.
Really worth the (not that long really) drive.
Take the cable car, walk along the wall, come down the Toboggan. Spot on.
Well worth the effort and some fabulous scenery
Toilets.... not ideal.

We did our tour through China Highlights, which I would highly recommend, so you might want to check the cost for their driver only service. Depending on where you are going, such as to the airport or just around city, it might be more economical to hire a taxi. Good idea to check around, and always make sure you have agreed on the price before getting into the vehicle.

Depending on how quickly you walk allow 15-20 minutes from one tower to another. There are steps up and steps down and walking paths that are flat in between each tower. So 9 towers is likely 2-3 hours of walking.
