Located in the heart of modern China and the site for massive parades and rallies, this was the site when in 1949, from a rostrum on the Gate of Heavenly Peace, Chairman Mao announced the establishment of the People's Republic of China.

Having watched the TV coverage live in 1989 when students defied authorities in the Square and the resulting suppression and deaths, it was a very sobering experience to stand here and reflect on those events. It is huge, with the National Museum, the Great Hall...More

So much to see and do here. Be prepared to walk a lot and know where you're going before you get there. A lot of rich history in this area along with a lot of security and cameras.

If you want to stand in line forever, wait some more, and then see a place with nothing on it, go visit it. Yes, the square has huge political significance but it made me sad to reflect upon the terrible events. Of my entire visit,...More

This is a historical landmark and a must visit. We visited on a day when temperatures reach 100 degrees and the humidity was close to 100%, I won't recommend that, specially because of the large crows but it was our only day so we went....More

I guess it's a must see when in Beijing, but would highly recommend to invest in a good guide who would take you through the history of the place, otherwise it's just another extremely touristic attraction with crowds of people.

This happens at sunset every night I believe. Well worth visiting but be prepared to be hussled off immediately after the guard change. A Bus load of soldiers enter the square and order you directly off the square.

Standing in Tiananmen Square is awe inspiring. From the iconic photos you recall from the news, to the security check to get in, you will know you are someplace special. The view of The Forbidden City is a photo-op. The statues at the Chairman's tomb...More

This place is a crowded square which is linked national museum to forbidden city. Don’t schedule your time to visit this place because there is no special thing to visit. You can pass this square when you want to visit its margin places.
