It has become very commercialized. The actors had no stability, they were out of breath, their facial expressions were not as exciting as they should be.. I went to Liyuan theatre 2 years ago and was absolutely fascinated with the Beijing Opera. However, now it...More

We bought free seating tickets at the hotel at USD60 a piece, went in early to secure a better spot, were told to sit in first row even though there were loads of better seats. We said we would like to sit somewhere else in...More

I know this was geared for tourists but we were glad we afforded ourselves the opportunity to experience the opera. It was three short stories that were easy to follow thanks to screens with subtitles. The Crossroads was hilarious as it was two men doing...More

If you go to Beijing then you have to do the Peeking Opera, but don't expect it to be anything like a western opera. This is a hotel show with no dress code required and if you have never done this before then get ready...More

A great place to be introduced to Beijing Opera, the Lyuan Theatre is located inside a hotel. Choice a table seating. Stands near the stage and snacks and tea are included. The english subtitles help to understand the repertoire.

We had front row seats which made these an even better experience. Before the show started, we watched as an actor applied his very stylized make up while seated onstage. That was amazing. Then his dresser came out to help him put on his very...More
