Today I visited the Great Wall @ Badaling. It is extremely touristy & even busy out of season. The wall is something special and must be visited. This part of the wall is close to Beijing, and once you have travelled there, you can conveniently reach the top by cable car. The views can be spectacular, although mine was effected by the misty conditions.

The older parts of the Great Wall are closed to tourists so we visited the section rebuilt and restored five hundred years ago. My it was steep but managed to climb to the peak on this occasion. Unable to take the alternate path down due to time constraints. There were many elderly people who obviously took their time and were at the peak when I arrived. Spectacular views from the top.

This was one of the greatest experiences of my life. To be able to have an opportunity to walk on the Great Wall, one of the worlds great wonder's of the world. It was a hard and long climb but absolutely worth it. Make sure you are prepared, sufficiently hydrated and comfortable. Walk all the way to the top. There are merchants at the top where you can purchase medals as memorabilia to show your friends and family that you did the climb.

I've climbed the steps up and down Santorini but this was far steeper! That said, do it! This is truly a wonder of the world not to be missed. Bring water and wear comfortable shoes and of course, your camera.
