Offers good overview of Beijing layout

Interesting displays and movies although you have to time it to see the main 3D movie as it isn't shown between 11:30 and 2:30. The scale model is really neat- we could see where... read more

We decided to go here because even though very few people have reviewed on the Trip Adviser site, everyone who went seemed to think it was fantastic so that convinced us to go. It is on the south east corner of Tian'anmen Square so if in the square pop in here for 90minutes. You wont regret it. It's fascinating even... More

Interesting displays and movies although you have to time it to see the main 3D movie as it isn't shown between 11:30 and 2:30. The scale model is really neat- we could see where our accommodation is in relation to all the key sights. Costs R30 to get in although there are discounts for over 65s. Located right in the... I am an urban planner so when a guide book briefly mentioned this attraction, I felt compelled to seek it out. It was a quiet place with amazing models of Beijing. Best of all no lines and great air conditioning. It does a great job of illustrating how Beijing has quickly become such a large city.

I'm surprised at some of the bad reviews. This is about city planning so don't expect school type exhibits. See this before you go to anything else in Beijing. There is a great bronze half globe in the entrance showing Beijing city, the 6 ring roads, surrounding hills and lakes, and the great Wall. It's great to get your bearings.... More

It's 150 m walk from exit B of the Qianmen metro station on line 2. Gate fee is 30 RMB. The museum spans 4 floors. English is sparse. The exhibits did not provide good outline of Beijing city planning. Most exhibits stood alone without any focus on how either a city mandate or technology advancement pushed the city forward. For... There was less than 10 people when I visited. The building is a white elephant, the exhibits were mostly poorly maintained or not operating. There is an impressive model on the 2nd level but that's about it. Nothing to buy here either as they were selling standard souvenirs available elsewhere.

So yeah... the model of the city is genuinly cool -especially if you like models-. The rest of the museum?... well it aspired to be hi-tech and interactive, but today almost all off the technology is broken and out of order...

We went there thanks to a very good friend who lives in Beijing, and I have to say it's a must to understand the plan of this huge city, the model shown is simply perfect and the geo location of Beijing is very well explained. You can also understand why the pollution is so high depending on the winds. Really... More

Informative place but pretty boring. Our guide spent so much time explaining in details every aspects of this exhibition that most of us were bored after 2 hours. And we were still not finished. Our group were made up of few kids, elderly people & teenagers and adults, who did not enjoy the visit. We had to tell her to... More
