We always take a cooking class when on holiday, and this one was amazing. We started with the market tour which was very interesting and then moved into making several very tasty dishes. The chef was great, easy to follow and fun! The kitchen was very clean and the ingredients were very fresh. We enjoyed ourselves a lot!

My wife and I took a cooking class with Chef Chao while visiting Beijing. He started out with a tour of the market and shopping for fresh ingredients for the day. He provided a great introduction to Schezhuan cooking and we made some great food. He is a very good teacher with a very nice cooking school.

I've been to Beijing several times so wanted to try something new. Set in a hutong, Beijing Cooking School was a great way to learn about authentic Chinese cuisine. Enjoyed the market visit. Chef showed us unique ingredients that I have never seen before. He also explained in details the ingredients and cooking techniques in the class. Chef also discussed... More

chef chao teaches his class by demonstrating the techique and then allowing each member to cook on their own. using this strategy, we learned to cook 4 different dishes in the beijing style....red braised eggplant, jiang bao chicken, braised duck, and cucumber salad. since we returned home, we have made 3 of these dishes for our family, and the cucumber... Nice market visit, although nothing unique about the market we visited. Bit of a slow start making Egg Tarts - more a demo than a cooking class - but the two types of dumpling were great. One from bought dough (great idea, hope we can find it in the UK) and the other made from scratch. A good half day... More

I signed up for a private cooking lesson as I had a couple of items that I wanted to learn to make and they were not offered in one of the traditional classes. While it was a bit pricey for just me, in the end I accomplished learning what I wanted to learn and came out of it with a... More

great skills, a bit of art and a lot of cheerfulness... this is what chef Chao offers you when you select and book one of his activities. Having the chance of being in Beijing on my own for business, I booked two activities: the chef's dinner table and a cooking class on dumplings. What a nice idea! they were quite... More

Chef Chao was easy to book with via email and provided very clear directions to his Hutong Kitchen where we were delighted to be joined by only one other person for a whizz through various Chinese cooking essentials (I have definitely been using soy sauce the wrong way round!) and led on an hour long tour of the local market.... After a bit of back & forth by email a few weeks before our trip, we decided on a Sat morning market tour & a Wed evening chef's dinner. Turned out we were the only group for both, making these educational, intimate experiences that proved to be highlights of our time in Beijing. With Chef Chao's printed directions in hand,... More

we took a dumpling class from the great chef who runs Beijing Cooking School. It was fascinating to walk through the hutong to the school location, as well as see the original elements of the courtyard. We went to the local market to buy fresh food for the day's classes, and that was a terrific experience as well. The chef... More
