We travelled to the museum by subway and spent over 2 hours looking round the multi-storey Chinese collection, which was free, so a very cheap morning's sightseeing. The theme was "the silk road" so there were hundreds of different impressions from Chinese artists and those...More

We spent an hour admiring the gorgeous stone sculptures with a Zen theme and another temporary exhibit. The artist Liu Jude happened to be visiting his exhibit and kindly approached us for a chat and photographs. This very special encounter would not have happened in...More

The Art museum had many wonderful pieces. I especially like the modern art and folk art by Chinese artists. It was very interesting in that they did have many paintings depicting their communist past. In fact, considering treatment of artists in China, you wonder how...More

Only floor 5 is open. Floor 1/2/3 closed for work. So pointless making the effort to go. Woefully disappointed. Had high expectations

Free admission with your ID card/passport. The exhibitions change regularly so check to see what interests. I loved the mix of traditional Chinese paintings and contemporary oil paintings with Chinese subjects. Was a great place to spend the afternoon away from the heat outside.

I once rated this museum as one of the finest in Asia. I visited about a year ago, and I was so impressed it took me two days to take in the splendour of the art on display. It was so alive as art should...More

The variety of art at the museum was vast, with modern paintings next to cultural paintings depicting Buddhist monks. The entrance was free which was even better, and the staff were helpful and polite. The museum has some great works of art and you can...More

The good? An easy 1/2 mile walk north of Wangfujing commercial street and it's free. Not so good: 3 floors with a hodgepodge of Revolutionary realist art, genre paintings and modern works - in each gallery! There seems to be no rhyme nor reason to...More
