We had a quick visit and were a little underwhelmed. The best part was overlooking the water, as well as catching a bit of the history of Mombasa. I would recommend it, but don't have high expectations.

Its a great place rich with history.. the guide fee is not standard the charge from a minimum of 500. If you cant afford a guide don't worry every place is labeled you can read and figure out. Taxis are available outside the fort

Small, but nice. Don't pay for a tour guide (sorry, I know it's a living) because it's not neccessary. You can read about everything once inside. Take the old city walk just outside the fort too.

One of the places that charges different entry prices for foreigners. Old Portuguese fort built coral rock on the entry to Mombasa. Houses a museum inside. Old Portuguese and Islamic. Influences visible. Modern reinforcement to prevent erosion by the sea in progress.

The fort has changed since I was last here in the 90s. Not all of the building is old and rugged. Some spaces have been renovated to accommodate items that show the way of life of the Swahili people since the early days when the...More
