It is one of the few places in Nairobi you can sit and relax. Unfortunately it is near the main bus stops in Nairobi city centre and therefore crowded with passers-by, preachers, marketers and even street kids. You can get a photo next to the monument and there are guys who do it for a small fee of about 100bob. Tom Mboya is a Kenyan hero who was assassinated about 50m from where the monument stands. The nearby street is named after him.

This is a beautiful monument located in the center of Nairobi but it is totally surrounded by fencing you cannot see through. I’m not sure why the fencing but if you knock on the gate the keeper may allow you to take pictures. But definitely a must see when visiting Nairobi and it’s great history.

Mboya's statue is located at one of the busiest junctions in Nairobi CBD (Moi avenue at the National Archives). It is near to where he was assassinated in 1969. Mboya was just 38 when was gunned down. He was a left leaning political leader of the independence movement, organizer of the trade unions movement and eventually minister under Jomo Kenyatta. His statue appearance looks a bit like that of a statesman, less so of a militant fighter.

Initially the monument was well done but unfortunately it has been vandalized and neglected. If revived, it can serve as a great reminder of Kenyan history.

This is located on a crowded Moi Avenue. Very historical, Tom Mboya was one of the greatest trade unionist Kenya has ever had. He was killed by a gun man along Moi Avenue. The Statue has been idolized, especially by people from his Luo community and fans of a local football club, Gor Mahia.

Tha statue is amazing and a must see since it is at the heart of the city centre. It reminds us of an important piece of history. Kenya has come a long way fighting for democracy. Tom Mboya was a real hero in the Kenyan politics which todays leaders needs to emulate. The monument being near where Tom Mboya was assasinated reminds us of our very long path to freedom.

Located outside the National Archives, the Tom Mboya Statue remembers an important political figure in Kenya’s history. You can read about Mboya inside the archives, where a display chronicles his life. The statue is small and simple, a circular base around a pillar with the statue on the top. Locals line the benches nearby, although more as simply resting their feet than admiring the statue, I suspect. Combine a trip to the statue with a visit to the National Archives – both are very interesting.
