A Gem of hospitality and Elegance: the Alabaster Museum in Luxor
Upon arrival, we were immediately enveloped in a sense of genuine hospitality that can only be described as exceptional. Their approach was not just professional, but also incredibly heartfelt, as they took the time to engage with us and share stories about the museum's history and the stunning alabaster artworks on display. We love every item we purchased here.

Friendly staff, a lot of choice
We had a nice shopping experience at the Imhotep Alabaster. Ramses was very hospitable and he gave a nice presentation of how they work alabaster. He was very helpful with our selection of souvenirs, if you want help. If you want space to shop on your own they also let you browse in peace. The product variety is great with a good price range.

A true family shop, with precious items.
What a wonderful experience! I spend lots of time in China, Brazil, Mexico…. So during our 3 week vacation here I had not found anything of real stone and with energy in it. Walking into the store you can feel the positivity flowing. Egyptian hospitality at its best, with fresh hibiscus tea and water offered immediately. Very low pressure sales, feel free to take your time and talk to everyone as family! For sale or for looking, you are treated the same and no “tipping” is expected. Treat them with kindness and it will come back 10 fold. The replicas they make here are used widely around the world. There’s an incredible back room that looks like something from the old museum in Cairo. A very special shop in a very special town, I think I will need to come back after making friends.

    Great Shop!
Amazing Shop with nice people and really good hand made alabaster Stuff. Although a beautiful ancient collection to see there, no forcing to buy and drinks on them. We even tried the scientific handcraft techniques!

    Worth your time
Enjoyed the visit and demonstration of hand-made alabaster vases. Very nice people. Like most every other place in Egypt which tourist goes, there are no prices on the items. I suspect you are sized up as to what they think you can pay. You do have to negotiate and have to think of what you are buying as art. Hard to put a price on art. The granite/stone pieces in the back room are reproductions of museum pieces; old, but not Pyramid old. I found what I liked a bit too expensive for me, but that did not stop me from negotiating and purchasing. I would have liked to have purchased another piece, but too rich for me and they were firm (so many tourists coming through I guess it is easier to be firm on price). Be sure to inspect the alabaster carefully as there can be cracks (ours is beautiful but seems to have glue on it that we missed). Definitely a must stop if in the area.

    Genuine Alabaster Experience
Excellent quality products and the patrons were never pushy! There were so many options and I felt free to look around as long as I liked. Great presentation as well. Unrelated but the coffee they served was some of the best I’ve ever had.

    Locally owned, beautiful alabaster pieces
One of the best places we visited in Egypt! They gave a great explanation of the materials used and the process. The alabaster vases and hand painted artwork is absolutely beautiful. We loved supporting this family business and were thankful that it was an easy, hassle free experience!

Great experience! Education, Entertainment, and Purchase!
We had a terrific experience learning all about alabaster and how these products are made. The presentation was filled with funny and entertaining moments. We don’t usually purchase much when we are on trips like this (small suitcases make travel easier), but we liked their products so much that we bought a few pieces and had them shipped home. They just arrived and are absolutely lovely!

    A #1 shop
This is my second trip to the west bank and I have discovered a jewel in Imhotep Alabaster shop. The friendly family atmosphere with a "no pressure " approach was refreshing. The price was reasonable and the products were superb for selection. A #1 shop

Exciting experience. The owner is really welcoming and sweetly explains all the steps to work alabaster. You can also see the workers modelling the stones and they let you even try... It's a really immersive experience!
Inside the shop there are lots of objects, maybe a little expensive but they are divided in different price ranges.
They also offer something to drink...

I love egyptian people <3

This is a really nice local shop where you can pick up quality souvenirs from local people. Before you shop, it's helpful to know a few things:

1. The shop claims that everything there is handmade and that claim is probably legitimate. However, the materials and labor for the handmade goods doesn't justify the high sticker prices. This means that you'll need bargain pretty hard for a fair price. You'll want to shoot for about 1/4 to 1/3 of the starting price.

2. Your guide and driver will receive a 4-5% commission for bringing you here. This is a fairly normal practice in Egypt, especially since tour guides rely heavily on tips and commissions to make money. If you want to shop and the commission structure doesn't bother you, then it's worth a stop here. If not, just tell the guide that you're really not interested.

3. When you first arrive, there is a bit of a show about how the alabaster is made. It's totally choreographed and a bit cheesy, but it's still interesting to learn about the craft as it has existed since ancient times.

Overall, this was a fun experience. We bargained hard and purchased some unique souvenirs. It's worth a bit of time at the end of your time in the valley.

I have now been to multiple locations in Luxor and this company has the best artisans I have seen in Egypt. The quality is so good you may need the receipt to prove you are not trying to take artifacts away from Egypt. The detail on the fine quality items is unparalleled. They use stone from the West Bank and ancient techniques to create the colors with red ochre, yellow ochre, lapis lazuli, etc. The hieroglyphs on the finer pieces are accurate and easy to read. I spoke at length with Karem in the Winter Palace location and he could not have been more kind, knowledgeable, and helpful. I spoke briefly with Ahmed in the West Bank and watched him work. I have only seen the detail her recreated with hair in ancient works and he did it all by hand. I will be returning to their shops on my next trip to Egypt.

The craftsmanship of the art is exceptional and true to its original work 3000 years back. What sets this store apart from all the street vendors, with their 'made in China' imitation products, is the depth and the details of the artwork, all made with alabaster from Egypt with local artists trying to keep the craft true to its original creation. Handmade. Egyptian made. Locally made in Luxor.
Now...if you are looking for a cheap $5/10 gift you can find this anywhere and one of the streethandlers will gladly take your money. The Imhotep store has a section of those items as well (machine made) but I promise you as soon as you enter the store you are taken back by the beauty of the handmade items. The people's stories, their work and pride is shown in every piece.
This is my first visit to Egypt and Luxor but I will be back for sure.

Imhotep Alabaster Luxor is a lovely souvenir shop, disguised as a workshop with a mixture of very beautiful handmade Egyptian pottery, vases, placed between, let us say more questionable items.

Upon arrival professional-performers would give you a small funny introduction about the traditional process of making some of the items sold in the shop. After entering the shop, we were served with falafel and very good coffee. They also have a very clean toilet, which are rarely found in Egypt.

Mohamed knows how to give his customers a very pleasant experience, but he also uses every trick in the box to make a good profit. Such as placing items behind glass to make them look more expensive, giving you one item for free but paying more in total. Also, none of the items has stickers with prices on it, so you are sure the price he offers “specially for you” depends on how rich you look and where you come from.

These tricks work very well for emotional buyers, such as my wife. Luckily, I advised her not to take her credit-card with her during our day tours in Egypt. 😉

Because we live in Switzerland, Mohamed gave us a “very special price”, so I was forced to play the game along and bargain very hard. This is a pity, because we would paid more if he started out with more reasonable prices and have bought more for a higher price if he would upper his game to more modern standards.

Nevertheless, we are very happy with the alabaster souvenirs. Potential 5/5, now 4/5.

The store is wall to wall beauty, everything is exquisitely and perfectly hand-crafted, absolutely gorgeous, so very true to the spirit of the Ancient world. An absolute gem in Egypt that everyone should visit! If I could bring home one of everything, I absolutely would. They are easy to access and talk to via Social Media as well for pricing on any piece or commission work if you want something completely custom, and they ship all over the world.

Honestly I was skeptical when, as part of a day tour, my guide suggested heading to an alabaster shop. However, once I entered the store, my jaw dropped with the quality of their selection. The antiques and collectibles on offer are like museum pieces. Mohamed was extremely helpful in explaining the differences based on price/quality but the exceptional service that Imhotep offered was packing and shipping my purchases back home to the US. It was so convenient that I probably purchased more items than I was intending! Note too that Mohamed kept in touch with me via WhatsApp with tracking information and delivery. Highly recommend this shop for it's service, quality, and value.

A very pleasant experience with full transparency as to the crafting process. I actually watched one of the artists etching a beautiful picture of a tree of life (from old Egyptian mythology) onto a vase by hand.
Some of the most detailed pieces take more than a month to complete, therefore they are quite expensive, but there are pieces made from high quality materials ranging from around 2 euros (for very small, painted pieces) in price to several thousand (for large, highly detailed antiques), therefore anyone can find something within their price range.
Most refreshingly, the salesman was not pushy at all, but quite helpful. He let me see some very expensive pieces without me feeling pressured at all to buy them. When I decided to buy more moderate pieces he didn't seem irritated by this at all and there was no pressure on me at any point.

This was one of my favorite places to visit on my day tour of Luxor. There are men up front working on alabaster who chime in when you're learning about how the stone is carved and polished. It's a little show and very cute. I will say that this shop is a bit more expensive than the vendors you typically see all over Egypt (obviously) but it's refreshing to see handmade artwork and not mass produced souvenirs. Honestly, I wish I could have bought more, but this was near the end of my trip and my suitcase was already full.

The shop is well equipped with beautiful souvenirs, but not only with souvenirs but also with items that are invaluable. I warmly recommend the shop both for tourists looking for just a plain piece of souvenir and for tourists expecting to find rare specimens like I found fantastic canopy vases.
There is also a small family museum that can satisfy fans of Egyptian antiques ...
