The Aswan market stretches for many blocks, the market had very few tourists,It is all colour, smells, and merchants with ever new and original spiels to get you to see their merchandise. They are not so aggressive as the tourist orientated spots, as the locals shop here. visited on a Thursday the day before their religious day on Friday when... More

We last visited Aswan in 2010 and I was interested to see what had changed in the Souk since the downturn in tourist numbers. I was delighted to see that the Souk remains vibrant and lively, bustling with shoppers and stallholders. What had changed was the "souvenir" stalls were mainly gone and their places taken by shops selling goods that... More

First I will start with what I did not like: I didn't have more time to view all the shops! Give yourself plenty of time because this is a very complete market that has spices, gold, clothes, shoes, fabrics, fresh halal meats and plenty tiny cafes to collapse in after you've walked your legs off!

this is a very interesting souk (market) in the middle of the city of Aswan where locals sell many items peculiar to Aswan as well as nice souvenirs, herbs ...etc, go there at night to avoid sun and hot weather and be ready to haggle with the locals about the price, and enjoy this experience

As a single female traveller , I use sense when it comes to visiting markets / souks - watch your bag , smile , be polite , look for a bargain and dress sensibly ! Staying in Aswan there isn't a whole lot to do but people watch , where better than the market ? I had no problems such... More

I echo Loulou's experience. I was at the tourist souk last month and I had $20 pickpocketed out of my camera bag that was hanging in front of me. If you are reading this before going to Aswan, please pay attention - around town and especially at the souk scarf, map, etc. "sellers" will approach you and they will spread... More
