Amazing structure and a scientific marvel. Good for a quick visit if you love feats of engineering Went with family and the guide was quite entertaining, explaining the achievements by the people and history of the dam.

See this dam when in Aswan. You won't be disappointed. An engineering marvel and a great spot to relax for awhile. You can easily see the old dam from here. I wasn't aware that the Russians loaned Egypt the money to build the dam.

You can't leave Aswan without visiting the High Dam. We rented a taxi, it takes about 20 minutes to reach there. We got photos above the Dam body itself. And in the old Soviets Egyptian friendship tower. It looks like lotus flower.

What the dam does for Egypt is very important. Good signage describing the construction but not worth more than 10 minutes of your time.

The dam that separates the Nile and Lake Nasser. It is significant but too far a ride to be worth it.

Due to security concerns, the military controls the dam. Visitors are not allowed to see the flow of water through the dam.

We went by mini bus to the Aswan High Dam. On route we visited the Obelisk Quarry. The drive was about half an hour. The route was over the original Aswan Dam and a good view of the Nile Cataracts were good. The high dam is subject to high security and we were checked out. For what - I do... More

Our tour bus pulled over into a special treed parking area ontop of the dam where visitors could view the Nile River flowing to the north on one side and, on the other side, Lake Nasser. The High Dam like the old dam has a road across it which is used to connect the West and East Banks. Several information... More
