We are a Christian group but this was one of my favourite stops while in Cairo. All need to dress modestly and women especially need to have wrist to ankle covered with a head scarf. They ask you to take off your shoes at the door. The inside of this mosque is absolutely stunning, adorned with beautiful stained glass and... More

I went there with my 5yo daughter with the intention to enjoy the serenity of the mosque. How wrong was I. Both of us being Eurasian, our features stood out. The moment we entered the citadel all the way to inside the mosque, we were having kids and teenagers coming up to us requesting for 'selfies'. Don't get me wrong,... More

The Citadel (you will also find it under Citadel of Salah Al-Din) was fortified by the Ayyubid ruler Salah al-Din (Saladin) between 1176 and 1183 CE, to protect it from the Crusaders. It's a complex of 3 mosques and 4 museums. The ceiling of the interior is massive and interesting - lie down on the carpet and take a pix. It's... More

I loved everything about this place. All the art work that was done by hand. The magnificence of this place is without words. It is a must see.

It's a privilege to be able to be in the mosque when afternoon prayers are sung. Our guide timed it so we could be there and he could explain the process. It was a very special moment that gave me a greater understanding of Islam and this beautiful building.

Its a beautiful mosque, interior was mind blowing but it was a disappointment to see the how they are not taking care of such an important piece of history. Carpets were so dirty that you dont feel like praying there.

The Alabaster Mosque is exactly as the name depicts. I beautiful structure with an exterior made entirely of Alabaster. You can tell that the structure has not been well taken care of because the once white and shiny exterior is now brownish in appearance. But that doesn't take a way from the history and importance of this mosque. Mohamed Ali... More
