Got up early on a Friday to travel the hour journey out of Cairo. Beautiful morning, even saw a rainbow over the pyramids. We have a trusted taxi driver we use a lot so travel was easy. I would not recommend going on a tour as their prices are extortionate. A taxi return from Cairo is about 200le, £10 gbp.... More

If you want to see a slice of traditional life, visit the camel market. It's off the beaten path but if you're in Cairo for longer than a few days, I recommend it. As other reviews stated, the people at the market are cordial if you interact but mainly they ignore you which is surprisingly refreshing after dealing with the... More

We hired an uber driver to take us to this camel market outside of Cairo. Go early as much of the action is over by 12:00. This is a wild and crazy market experience. Not for the faint of heart or slow reacting. Camel do get loose and they do run through, over the crowds.

The Birqash Camel Market is truly an amazing experience and a must see for anyone who likes to do things off the beaten path. I visited on a Friday morning in August 2016 around 8:15am with my husband and baby (in a carrier). We happened to find an uber driver the night before who knew where to go so we... More

45 minutes outside of Cairo - we arrived at 9am on a Friday and it was very busy. I've heard Fridays are the best day. 25 Egyptian Pounds each to enter (extra fee for cameras - but not phones). The amount of Camels is amazing! We went from the Ramses Hilton (next to the Egyptian Museum/Tahrir Square) and it was... More

Family of five, with three children visited the market on a Friday. Ninety minute drive from Maadi, with very light traffic. Went at about 10:00am, which was perfect. There is a small entrance fee at the entrance, few dollars payable in LE. The camel merchants were friendly and not worried by tourists taking photos. Be careful, lots of camels running... More

Felt like I was back in medieval Egypt with this fascinating market on the outskirts of Cairo. It was not touristy and was an active market where one could carefully walk around all of the camels and camel traders. Thanks Rudy (Reda) of EMO Tours, Cairo, for a wonderful tour of this location which is probably not on very many tourist's... More

If you are even thinking about doing the trip, then you probably should do it. I was a bit nervous being in the country like this, as an American, but the trip was a blast. It is about a 45 minute drive from Cairo, but almost feels like you are in the middle ages. Thousands of camels, most of them... More

As Americans, we often do not understand the way of life of other cultures as we either are not open to it or we delight in remaining oblivious to the plights of others who have lives much harder than ours. This tour was the most unusual and one of the best of our trip to Egypt. This is NOT a... More

The camel market (souk al-gamaal) is just outside Cairo, in Birqash. Even though it is just outside the city, it took us about an hour to get there. When we saw pick-up trucks with camels loaded in the back, we knew we were getting close. It cost 20 Egyptian pounds for each of us to enter, and I paid an... More
