After the Muslims conquered Egypt in 641 AD, they built their city, Al-Fustat, on what is now the southern border of modern Cairo. Today, this section of the city contains many important sites including the Mosque of Sultan Hassan, Mosque of al-Azhar and the Khan al-Khalili market, which is considered the heart of this area.

One of my favorite neighborhoods in the whole world. Its amazing. I'd put this as the #2 Cairo place to visit behind the pyramid. The bazaar. The people watching. The food. Everything is amazing.

It's hard to describe the grandeur of the Mosques and Synagogues - exquisite in detail! Cairo Urban Adventures provided a thorough and informative tour through Islamic Cairo with Wali our enthusiastic guide - a great trip to appreciate the beauty of the Egyptian culture.

Islamic Cairo south part, where are the grate constructions like Citadel and Old Cairo city walls. One of oldest squares in Cairo and more than 10 mosques surround it. A very good place to spend your whole day there.
