Visited the Sphinx as part of my cruise excursion that I arranged privately with a tour company. The structure is amazing! However, the local kids were harassing us by grabbing our cameras to take photos and thereafter aggressively asking for money when we refused. Many unsuspecting tourists (esp. old ladies had to pay them small tips otherwise they were cornered).... More

Beautifully carved and well worth a detour in our day out. Not a lot of people look at this we were told, perhaps tour guides should add it to the list.

This is a nice sized sculpture that is good for picture taking. Its colour differentiates itself from the Sphinx at Giza. It is a typical stop on a day tour of Cairo located in Memphis. There are lots of touts selling there cheap tourist junk around the sculpture.

You should not miss it. When you are there people will come and take your photos, like you kiss the Sphinix, photo will be great, but make sure fix the price first, otherwise he will ask money in Euro/ Dollars or forget your camera

Most tours will take you here so you might as well see it since you came all the way to cairo but its not the real thing of course.

We visited the Sphinx in Memphis, which was Egypt's first capital. There wasn't too much to see on the grounds besides this statue, but in the museum there was a carved statue of Ramisses II. Part of his leg is gone, but rest is intact. Its well over 100 feet long and enormous. You feel like an ant when you... More

I recommend a visit to Alabaster Sphinx it is not as large as you imagine it to be and it it very near the Pyramids you would think there was vast spaces between then there is not all within walking distance of each other. Have a great holiday.

I visited in March 2012. I wanted to see the large statue of Ramses II, and the Alabaster Sphinx at the Memphis outdoor museum. Don't let your tour guide try to talk you out of visiting Memphis. It was well worth the trip. Sit on the ledge in front of it for a photo op, you won't be disappointed.

My guide informed me this is the second largest sphinx in Egypt. Comparatively it is a lot smaller than the Great Sphinx in Giza, but I liked how up-close and personal you can get to this sphinx - there were hardly any people there when we went.
