- Maria Solange OFarroupilha, RS31,214 contributionsSmells, colors and flavors! This market with narrow alleys has many stalls selling a little bit of everything: perfumes, souvenirs, shoes, spices, clothes, jewelry and much more. It is a mixture of smells, colors and flavors. It's a back and forth of people of all nationalities. Haggle, as it is a common practice in this place.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 February 2024

Everything is unmissable. I absolutely recommend the visit but be careful not to show a lot of money in your wallet. Always and only change or small denominations.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 February 2024

He is throughly professional , decent and he speaks very good English, he has great knowledge of Egypt, Cairo, history and the new Egypt. I enjoyed my tours with him , his advices were spot on. I highly recommend him for anyone who doesn’t want to go though any trouble touring around and trust me is it not easy to do it on your own. I have never before recommend anyone or anything but I really thing he is a good help to see and experience Egypt, with his permission his number is +201227448749 and his instagram page is egypt.dreamers.Visited February 2024Travelled soloWritten 27 February 2024
- travaller60Wellington, New Zealand124 contributionsAn experienceWent with my daughter to the Khan-El-Khalili which is the historic bazaar in the centre of old Cairo. It fascinating, huge and a must experience. To be honest some people made us feel a little uncomfortable, but all was good. The salespeople can be a little pushy and most of the items are cheap and I believe are imported from China. So be aware.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 5 March 2024

You can't imagine how many hundreds of thousands of people flock to this souk on Friday, a public holiday in Egypt. - albertoobsasBuenos Aires, Argentina3,793 contributionsOpen-air marketIt is not like the bazaars of Istanbul (shops inside a large building), it is a somewhat chaotic traditional Egyptian shopping center; mix of picturesque streets, passages, buildings with shops inside; In fact, the guide took us to a couple of businesses on the upper floor of an old building (whose door had no signage), quite dilapidated, with businesses that overlooked the interior patio of the building. There is everything, a lot of imported products, not crafts. You have to be prepared to haggle and be patient, Egyptian sellers are insistent, overwhelming in some cases. You have to combine serenity and firmness, just in case it is best to simply say “no” or not speak; If you say “on the way back I pass” and by chance you pass through the door again, they will surely recognize you and remind you of your promise to come in to see the merchandise.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 March 2024
- Al Geller AMiraflores, Peru148 contributionsFor the Brave: Noisy, Crowded, Noxious FumesNot accessible. The walk there was better from Ritz vs Hilton. Some beautiful sights along the 30 min one way journey. Many of the sidewalks are damaged or blocked with vendor goods and streets blocked with double parked cars. The garment district seemed the most crowded so didn’t stay long there. Furniture, kitchen and LED Light districts were pleasant. Baby Shower/Party district was too crowded and unappealing. Hard to find a place to sit and relax or just to have a beverage and rest. Missed the food and spice market. Mopeds and tuk tuks are allowed on most pedestrian walkways. None of the traffic lights work so best to cross roads with larger groups of people.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 20 March 2024

Didn't really have to but anything in particular but we did anyway. we went on a Sunday morning and it wasn't too crowded in the am. Be ready for lots of hawking and haggling. The females felt a little harassed so be ready for that. Our guide helped us negotiate which helped with the prices. Consider it a bit of entertainment.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 March 2024

Lots of souvenirs to be found but rows and rows of other items which for a tourist is not really that interesting. Be careful where you get dropped as really difficult to cross from one side to the other. Don’t expect to do your fashion shopping at this market but it’s worth the experience just to go. I made the trip in September 2023 but I didn't have time to write my reviews before and Trip Advisor now only allows you to choose November 2023.
The market itself is great to visit for the variety of shops and products they sell, however I recommend that if you are not with a group, visit with a trusted local Guide at least once before embarking on the tour alone. I say this because there is a lot of bullshit in the market, and as you should already know the "costume of them" is extremely rude and dishonest in the deal with women, the harassment is certain if you are walking even if accompanied, imagine unaccompanied. If you are a man the problem is to get lost in the hallways and not get out of there without "paying" someone for help.
Another tip is never buy anything from the carts that stay on the streets, make the shopping in the stores. Thus the safety in the purchase is much better, more guaranteed. I say this because we negotiated some t-shirts in one of these carts and we chose a size so that in the end the guy delivered us a much smaller size, the clothes label was the size I asked but when we opened here in Brazil it was a size that didn't even fit in an adult, so be careful!

Yes, you have to get lost in the bazaar to get the best experience. In addition, in the alleys far from the paths taken by groups, you will not be bothered by sellers and in perfect safety. For any photos you should not give anything other than a smile and thanks (choukran). When you are really lost and fed up, you will always arrive at a very busy street where taxis pass. When purchasing, the seller will ask you how much you want to pay. If he told you a starting price, divide it by four. It’s supply and demand but of course the £10 kg of banana doesn’t require haggling obviously. For the spices, I found the price so low that I didn't haggle. I think tourists don't buy a lot, it's more for locals where I came across a seller at the right price.

Do watch out for your bags here. Almost all pickpockets happen in the market. I didn't buy anything from the market itself since my local guide told me everything in the markets got imported from China and I get to buy them cheaper on Ali Express. But I do recommend the local coffee shops, I loved the coffee and the tea and the authentic Mango juice and also definitely try their cheese pizza.

It was my second visit. It's more or less the same as it was 32 years ago. It's quite dirty, noisy, the sellers are abusive, you generally feel that the asking prices are way above their value. However, if someone who goes to Cairo does not visit this inn, it would be like someone who comes to Istanbul not to go to the Grand Bazaar, so it should definitely be visited. One should drink coffee at El-Fishawy Café, but not drink water unless it is in a bottle and the bottle cap is sealed, for example. There are also decent shops that do not try to attract customers from the door, or that do not try to sell anything without you asking when you enter. They do not bargain under any circumstances, but the products are affordable compared to Türkiye. Mother-of-pearl inlaid products, silver jewelry, natural stones, etc. can be purchased. For example, you can try Egyptian Mousky Bazaar.

My visit to the Khan Al-Khalili Bazaar in Cairo, Egypt, was a true feast for the senses and a highlight of my trip. Stepping into this bustling marketplace felt like stepping back in time, as I was surrounded by the sights, sounds, and scents of traditional Egyptian culture.
Wandering through the maze-like alleys of Khan Al-Khalili, I was captivated by the vibrant colors of the handicrafts, textiles, and souvenirs on display. From intricate jewelry to beautiful ceramics, the bazaar offered a wide array of unique treasures to explore and purchase.Interacting with the friendly local vendors was a delightful experience, as they shared stories about their products and welcomed me with warmth and hospitality. I also enjoyed savoring traditional Egyptian street food and aromatic teas, immersing myself in the flavors of the region. The historical significance of Khan Al-Khalili added an extra layer of charm to my visit, as I learned about its centuries-old heritage and role as a hub of trade and culture in Cairo. Whether you're shopping for souvenirs, sampling local cuisine, or simply soaking in the vibrant atmosphere, a visit to Khan Al-Khalili Bazaar is a must-do for any traveler in Cairo. I left the bazaar feeling enriched by the cultural experience and with memories that will stay with me for years to come.

We visited this bazaar with a local guide. I'm very glad we did, as otherwise we would have gotten lost in the chaos. This is a good place to shop for local items, cheap trinkets, and gifts to take back home. You can find local food, spices, cotton products, lamps/lanterns, clothing, jewelry, incense etc. To me as a westerner, I found the market to be very exotic. I was expecting Alladin to pop out from just around the corner! The place was busy mostly with locals. I enjoyed the sights, and the smell of incense. I did not like the constant hassle from shop keepers to check out their products. One shopkeeper literally asked me "how can I take your money? " They are more than happy to rip you off. If you'd like to purchase something you must haggle. Otherwise you will be greatly overcharged. This is one of the things that I hate about Egypt. Nothing ever has a clearly marked price. Locals pay one price, and tourists another as they are constantly charged way more. We are walking bank machines! If you don't like the price of something, simply walk away. If the vendor is desperate enough he will sell you the item at the price you're willing to pay as he doesn't want to miss out on the sale. Have fun shopping and haggling, but be safe as well. Watch out for pickpockets. I recommend for women to carry a crossbody bag in front of you that is slash resistant. I use Travelon's bags, they are great. You will need cash for the market. If you want to bring your credit cards with you, make sure you have a RFD blocking wallet/money belt/purse pocket. As a blond petite woman, I would never go to this market by myself. You will be not only constantly harassed but ogled, and in some cases followed or groped. Try to avoid this by dressing modestly and going to the market with a companion or a guide.

A must do market although I liked the local markets more, I visited one during my Cairo food tour with Food tours by Mila. You need to bargain hard and no matter how much it seems like it was still over priced, the oils was 10-20 times more expensive than the prices I found in local markets. It's huge market though and definitely good place to buy souvenirs like magnets I enjoyed walking and learning about Islamic history with our guide.

We visited Khan El Khalili, this time with a local guide and that made it a different experience. The hassling was much less, we got better prices for things and were welcomed into our guide's favourite mint tea shop like locals. We certainly didn't pay the tourist prices complained about on here. it's a wonderful and unique experience. This time we learnt more about the pricing variations in different parts of the area.
Our Top Tip would be to go with a local as it made the whole experiencemuch more pleasant.

The Hariri Market, which consists of several stores in the Cairo area, next to the Imam Hishan Mosque, is the largest market in Egypt and should be the most tourist-intensive attraction. In the market there are endless handicrafts, special products, souvenirs, gift shops, like a super-large open-air maze, which makes people wonder where to go. Shopping in the Harley Market, some stores can use the US dollar cash directly, of course, you have to strictly hit the price and offer the price.

Lanes and lanes of crowded alleys with every shop having the same imported factory made souvenirs. Nothing original and Egyptian. Has none of its famous old world charm. Worth visiting for an hour to get a couple of cheap fridge magnets to say you've been to Egypt.

If I understood you correctly - you are asking about market hours..
You see, Khan El Khalili is not one market per se, but a large group of shops and cafes..
The hours are not fixed, they range from 9AM for cafes and 11AM for shops - to 12AM for shops and probably all nigt for cafes
Enjoy :)
