The Saint Virgin Mary Coptic Orthodox church is one of the oldest churches in Egypt, dating to the 4th Century AD. It’s also known as the “Hanging Church” because it is suspended over a passage. There are a few places inside you can see the suspension. There's a lot of history inside, including photos of all the Orthodox popes. There's... More

We attended while in Coptic Cairo not much to see other then a couple slits in the floor to show that it's high above the ground. Interior is worn and smells bad.

This was one of the most stunning churches in Cairo! The history behind it is both sad and moving. Our tour guide, Araby Ahmed did an amazing job of explaining the rich details of this Coptic church and its historical significance. Thank you Araby for a wonderful experience!

This church is built on top of a fortress. Besides it's coptic architecture and rich history, you can see the fortress underneath it on which it is built through a glass window on the floor. Get someone to explain to you the mystical stories surrounding that church, it makes for a more enchanting experience.

Learned a lot about Egypt which would otherwise be missed. A whole new Christian side and history which is often unnoticed and yet accounts for 10% of the Egyptian population. The Old City and Hanging Church is a must see, which only takes about an hour of your time.

This church has a lot of history to offer. I would suggest spending an hour, savouring the richness and honoring the relics of many saints. It tells the history of 2000 years of coptic presence with all its challenges. If u find a priest, he will be happy to accompany you.

A lovely church with many mosaics in the courtyard. Stained glass, nooks and crannies, while preserving the sanctity of the place. Steeped in history, well preserved, easily accessible. There is also a souvenir shop and different vendors for religious pamphlets ,or books to get a new rosary, etc. If items seem to be outrageous, go around the corner to the... More
