A museum but not as we know it
Amazing ancient collection of places all in one area. Be prepared to want to photograph every beautiful detail of the architecture and craftsmanship. Swamped with tourists. Security around entire area is very much visible.

Along with Coptic Cairo, This Museum is A Worthy Addition to Your Cairo Tour Itinerary!
Most visitors travel to Cairo to see the pyramids. However, Coptic Cairo and The Coptic Museum are a worthy addition to your tour itinerary. The Coptic Museum in particular is filled with treasures from early Christianity. Many are wooden and stone artifacts from ancient churches as well as textiles and manuscripts. Recently, restoration was completed on the oldest complete Book of Psalms written in the Coptic language (4th century AD), This museum is an interesting and educational way to spend an hour.

A must see for some real treasures
I’d been to Coptic Cairo befor but not the museum. It’s well worth a visit. Beautiful grounds and if it’s hot it’s a nice place to be. The museum itself was much larger than I expected. Once in you follow it round like an IKEA store. It contains some real treasures which are very old. Would recommend.

    Interesting museum
A visit to Coptic Cairo would be incomplete without visiting the excellent Coptic Museum. There is a lot to see. You follow a linear path to visit all of the rooms. There were many beautiful exhibits such as an Acanthus frieze, 6th century, from the Monastery of St. Jeremiah in Saqqara. There were Coptic tapestries and ancient books, including the most ancient Book of Psalms known in the Coptic language. Another room is devoted to icons. It is well worth a visit.

This is a must-visit, especially for lovers of the history of religion. A highlight was seeing the "most ancient book of Psalms known" (behind a glass) which is accompanied by a video presentation.

Entry was EGP 230.

Asian visitors be warned, you will be followed around as if you're a thief. Our visit was ruined by this rude behaviour by the staff. Caucasian visitors were left alone.

Coptic Cairo is a day of touring in itself. This museum is a great starting point before you see the other sights to help put everything in context. Well worth a visit. The displays were nicely laid out with very well written explanations. A bonus was the museum was not crowded like others in Cairo.

Egypt is a land of several civilizations - Ancient Egyptian (Pharao), Grecian, Roman, Christian, and Islamic. This museum contains elements and artifacts of the middle three.
