One of our tour group was very interested in the Rainbow bridge (which I hadn't heard of) which is a light and water display on the Banpodaegyo Bridge on the Hangang River so our guide arranged for a special visit. We wandered down and found our own vantage points. It is free to visit and we saw the 8:30 PM show. The display lasted about 15 minutes but there were multiple displays that Sunday night. Our tour guide arranged for us to get on the bus during the show that ended at 9:30 PM so we could travel across the bridge and see how the display looked from the inside of the bridge. Thanks Heni!

None of the shows occurred on the evening we went, we were there from 6pm to 9.30pm just in case they ran at least one of the shows. No announcement made or explanation given. Weather was perfect. Lots of people waiting and nothing happened. An expensive and long train ride for nothing.

Took a while travelling to see the show and arrived at 7:30pm for the first show…nothing happened. Decided to wait in the rain till 8pm for the next one, again no show. There were muffled announcements in Korean so I assume they told us it was cancelled but don’t know the reason why. I doubt the weather would have affected it. Very disappointing experience. They should have updates and announcements online for tourists to check if the show will be on or not.

I saw a glimpse from 0830pm show and it was only spout of water. No announcement that the last show was cancelled. Weather is even fine. No rain, no clouds.Wasted effort to go since the place is far.1.5km from the nearest mrt across expressway. Best to go to Dadaepo in Busan instead. They will even give you the best seats even when it rains.

Quite a distance walking from express bus terminal metro station, anyway it is worth it watching the light shower where water jets coming out from side of the bridge. The timing of shows are 7.30pm, 8pm, 8.30pm, 9pm. Each show lasts around 20mins. There are some food stalls nearby where you can get a quick snack. Restaurants and cafes are also available.

It takes around 10-15 mins walk from Express Bus Terminal Station to this. It is better if we get out from Exit No. 4 of Gangnam Underground Shopping Mall.
It is quite cold at nigh. However, there is a musical performance nearby, so I can enjoy the view together with listening to music.

I had read many reviews about this bridge I have seen pictures about and my expectations were high after all. Unfortunately, once arrived near the bridge I saw absolutely nothing of what I was waiting for. No lights, no spectacle with splashes of water in short has been a disappointment. The bridge is normal and if it were not for the show I expected it is nothing spectacular.

Romantic rainbow fountain with great musics and lightings! Really worth a visit.

We follow the directions given by the official website to alight at subway stn Dongjak only to found out that it's a 2km walk to Banpodaegyo and took us an hour to reach. Pathway is very dark and no signage at all. Luckily a helpful ahjumma walk with us to to the bridge.
Later on we found out the nearest subway station is actually EXPRESS BUS TERMINAL STN which is abt. 20 mins walk. so pls do not go to Dongjak Stn.

Do check online for the schedules of the showtime. It is not available from Nov - Mar.

Getting here on public transport involves a lot of walking - I got the train but jumped in a cab to get me to the park. My advice is to take a cab to Banpo park on the south side of the river. And get a taxi back from that side too. Nowhere to view the show from the north side. Taxi back to Myeongdong from the park was 8500 won.
Fountain show was cool - worth heading there for. Takes about 15/20 minutes.

My family and I attended a 7:30pm show at the Banpodaegyo or Banpo Bridge Rainbow Fountain back in June 2018 but unsurprisingly the sky was still quite bright such that the contrast of the fountain and the colorful lighting were poor against the surrounding. Fast forward 4 years later and just 3 days before the end of October following which the Rainbow Fountain shows would be stopped from November to March, we were again at the 7:30pm show and this time the sky was really dark.

Getting there and show timings:
Take Subway Line 3, Line 7 or Line 9 to Express Bus Terminal Station (339, 734, 923) Upon coming out of exit 8-1, walk straight and at the first main intersection with a flyover, turn right to Banpo-daero road, continue straight for about 500m till you reach the traffic light junction from where you need to cross to the middle section of the road. This would lead you to the underpass from which you then arrive at the Banpo Hangang Park where the Banpo Bridge crosses the Hangang River. We walked about 20 minutes. On both occasions when we were at Banpo Bridge, the show was performed only on the right side of the Bridge. There is no entrance fee.
The night show timings for April, May, June, September and October are: 7:30pm, 8pm, 8:30pm and 9pm. The night show timings for July and August are: 7:30pm, 8pm, 8:30pm, 9pm and 9:30pm. So do not worry if you miss the first show as there are few more shows later; however, the later the show, the colder will the night becomes. Also, do note that the Rainbow Fountain show may be cancelled due to unfavorable weather conditions (example rain and strong wind) as well as the poor audience number at the park.

The Moonlight Rainbow Fountain:
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Banpo Bridge, at 1,140 metres long (both sides of the bridge), is the world’s longest bridge fountain. Moreover, both sides of the bridge have 380 nozzles that shoot or spray some 200 tonnes of water jet across 43 metres horizontally and 20 metres down into the Hangang River every minute. Under the illumination of some 200 LED lights, the water jets then “dance” to the music for 20 minutes.

The “dancing” motion of the water jets varied in terms of the spraying angle, spraying sequence (all at once or from certain locations on the bridge) and the spraying durations. When the “dancing” motion is combined with the variation in colours from the LED lights - wow, we got a fantastic and dazzling fountain show that vowed the audience seated at the Banpo Hangang Park open air amphitheatre and along the Han River! As the audience was large (this is a popular attraction), you would do well to choose a position such that you could get a clear sight of the fountain. Also, for taking non-blurry night photographs with no camera shake or vibration, I placed my camera on a tripod, framed the setting and then just kept clicking away.

We enjoyed the Rainbow Fountain show. We liked the fact that Fountain showcased its sustainability or eco-friendliness by spraying Han River water and not fresh water. Nevertheless, we were disappointed that the autumn/fall Banpo Hangang Moonlight Market was nowhere to be found.

Anyway, besides the night cruises along the Hangang River, the Banpo Bridge Rainbow Fountain is an attraction along the Hangang River that you do not want to miss at night! Do bring additional clothing to keep warm especially during the cold autumn and spring nights.
