- LeonhknyHong Kong, China22,255 contributionsQuick glimpse of Korean lifeThis is a fun and informative experience to understand the key features of Korean culture. The museum tells the collective memory of Koreans from birth to death as well as the major festivals. There is also a recreation of 1980s Seoul to show how the Korean capital evolved to a modern metropolis. Quite an interesting place for tourists to explore more about the country.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 26 November 2023
- Ann D12 contributionsWorth a free visitIt’s an interesting museum with cool designs and exhibits. We went during a limited time exhibit but unfortunately there was no English text to talk about it so we had to use our phones for each element. I thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the museum though, definitely worth a visitVisited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 February 2024
- cristoph20101,349 contributionsSmall collection of artifactsThere is no entrance fee. This National Folk Museum has a small collection of artifacts of historical and cultural significance to the Korean people. The three main sections are very easy to navigate and there is also a special collections section. Given the small collection, it's not too overwhelming and I took about two hours to browse through slowly. If you're visiting Gyeongbokgung, you will see a tall pagoda on the side; this is the National Folk Museum. My recommendation is to finish touring the palace grounds before heading to this museum.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 23 May 2024
- MKMapmanMilton Keynes, United Kingdom1,742 contributionsWorth seeing after the Gyeongbokgung PalaceThe National Folk Museum of Korea sits behind, and can be accessed on the same admission ticket as, the Gyeongbokgung Palace complex. As such it's worth seeing, if you have some energy left. Although the building has been there since 1993, the main exhibition areas were revamped in 2023. I particularly liked the first two permanent exhibitions, covering the beginning of K-culture and Korea in the four main seasons. Both made imaginative use of multimedia, while keeping sufficiently many original objects on display. The third permanent gallery, on Korean Life Passages, was slightly less captivating, although still quite interesting. There are also temporary exhibitions (I don't find the "Fathers" one in May 2024 very exciting, and a small cafe at which you can buy a coffee and cookie! To the right of the main building there is a preserved 1960s/70s “street of memories” located just outside the main building: this was interesting but actually not that Korean.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 19 June 2024

We really enjoyed our visit. The space outside of the museum was quite pretty and serene. We went with our 9 year old daughter and only made it through the first floor and spent about an hour. My daughter is not a huge fan of history, so my husband and I enjoyed this museum more than she did but we felt it was a worthwhile experience.
The museum is free for the general entrance. there are special exhibits that cost extra but we didn't feel compelled to view it. We'll definitely be back again to check out the other floors and the rest of the park attached to the museum.

First time to visit Seoul, Korea. This was the 1st stop of the tour. The place is huge with beautiful structure, signs with their own meanings. The tour guide was able to explain the meaning of every structure why it's facing East, West, etc. Why structure openings pointing this way. You have to be a cultural enthusiast to be be able to understand some if not all of it. For us, just walking around the big compound was already a nice experience. We were able to witness the changing of the guard. It was a good place to visit.

The museum was hosting a kids activity that we attempted to visit with our 6 year old.
We were told it was full. An hour later we came back and it was empty. We entered with our son and were half way through the exhibit when a rude front desk staff threw us out bc it was “full”. He continues to be-rate us causing our child to cry.
Again and again the staff at tourist attractions are more concerned with their rule book or cultural code than visitors having a good time.
The abuse / racism / xenophobia at top tourist attractions is uniformly rampant. This is what you find if you scratch beneath the shiny K-pop veneer.
The county needs to drag itself into the 21st century and learn something about hospitality.
Leave Korea for the racist Korean and spend your money elsewhere

This museum uses temporary thematic exhibits to enhance its permanent collection. I saw one on the importance of fishing. Another area was under construction. The classic folk art displays were well done. I thought there was a lot of walking. This is a classy place - and free. The entry point is not obvious.

Visited due to needing an indoor place as it was raining. When it rains in Korea it really rains! The museum was very interesting, showing the history and culture of Korea. There were interactive games and English translations. They also have a children's museum. The shop had some nice pieces. Only trouble is that there is also a lot to see in the outside area, so I still ended up getting soaked. Easy to get to and free to enter.

visiting the museum is free. We visited on May 15, when the palace was free. The museum is located next to the palace grounds and reflects traditional and national holidays, Korean culture and its characteristics. Lots of interactivity, including about nature, weather, and the way of life of the people. You can listen to folk instruments, see the structure of a Korean house. Large halls, well air-conditioned. Even the toilet is unusual. Worth to visit. Yes, there was a temporary exhibition about cats.

Really enjoyed this little museum - just the right size for an hour or 3 (depending on your preferred pace). So-so cafe (very limited and oddly cheese-laden lunch options a challenge for the lactose intolerant) with pleasant outdoor seating. In nice weather, there are grounds to explore as well. We particularly liked the immersive hanok inside and the small hanok you could walk inside on the outdoor grounds. Can be accessed from Gyeongbokgung Palace - or use the east gate to access for free without entering palace grounds.

Lifestyles from ancient times to the present are introduced here.
There are old shops, bathhouses, and barber shops.
The presentation is interesting and it feels like you've been transported to the world of a Korean period drama.
It's amazing that admission is free.
