Wifi: yes, free Locker: yes, free Water dispenser: Yes, free. Both hot n cold At my visit, the artist featured was Korean contemporary painter Yoo Youngkuk. He is indeed an artist ahead of his era! Spectacular paintings. You literally see his paintings mature over time! Very impressed with his gift, focus, and high level of discipline!!! Because of this museum,... More

Four floors of a wide variety of contemporary art including visual arts, sketches, sculpture, paintings, and more by Korean artists. I highly recommend it. No charge for admission.

Large international quality gallery with both Korean and overseas work. There are fantastic facilities including free lockers, lots of toilets and drinking fountains. I had lunch at the restaurant in the far corner and the bibimap was excellent and incredibly good value (9,000 won). A little hard to find your way into - but interesting to walk right around the... We attempted to visit the National Museum of Contemporary Art (MMCA) branch at Deoksugung Palace recently and found it inexplicably closed. MMCA posted opening hours are 10am to 7pm (T,TH,F,SN) and 10am to 9pm (W,ST), closed on Monday. Yet when we arrived on a late Thursday morning we found the museum closed with a maintenance sign posted at the foot... More

The Neo-Classical building of the museum was built in 1909 and is located within the Deoksugung park. There were no notices to the fact that the museum is closed for renovations for a couple of months, nor did anyone at the ticket counter of the park bothered to let us know. Still, it's a fine building.

The whole setup is a bit strange: you need to pay to enter the palace grounds the museum is located on, and then you need to pay another fee to enter the art museum. Your experience depends on what is showing, and the galleries seem to change about every 3-4 months. The Seoul Museum of Modern Art is close by.... More

Frankly, I enjoyed the grounds more than the collection of art from Prague which was on exhibit in April, 2013. The rain was very heavy for a few hours so I went to the museum.

I attended the Limb Eung-sik: Art of Recording, Records of Art exhibition at the National Museum of Contemporary Art. The museum is an old Greek revival style building with two floors of exhibition space. It's in a huge park that is the former National Palace of Korea. They have a small gift shop and the exhibition placards were in both... More

Staying in Seodaemun

Neighbourhood Profile
Seodaemun
Walk within this area, centered on what used to be the western gate of traditional Seoul, and you'll get a glimpse of Korea’s past through the beautiful and historic buildings that are scattered throughout. Whether wandering around Deoksugung’s palace walls or touring more historically somber sites such as Seodaemun Prison, this is one of the best places for culture, architecture, and history lovers. Jeongdong in particular is a beautiful place for a stroll in spring and autumn.
