On our second visit to Yangon, we decided to visit China Town, having missed it the first time.

It was fascinating, and the architecture eclectic and colourful. However, I did not feel particularly safe or relaxed. I certainly did not feel tempted to try any of the restaurants either.

It was a contrast to traditional Myanmar life, but frankly I was glad to leave for the quieter side of town.

Visiting Yangon many times in the past years, Yangon is cleaner and more street lights. The city never gets drark again at night and I feel safer. Besides, there are more modern convenience stores (high Level) as well. Bravo Yangon.

Not a lot of any interest by day. More colourful at night but really concentrated on one street for food. Head for 19th street and enjoy the street food. At least twenty stalls and several fixed restaurants set up with their barbecues and array of foods on skewers waiting for your selection. From vegetable skewers at 300 to pork, beef, chicken, 600 and octopus (calamari) prawns 1500 large tiger prawns, and whole reasonably sized fresh fish for 5500. You can easily have a good meal for two and a couple of large bottles of Myanmar beer (2750 bottle) for $10. Although ask prices first, restaurants have tables but food is twice the price of stalls tables.

This is a very lively area of town, with numerous little restaurants, including on the street, offering mysterious dishes.

Chinatown in Rangoon isn't particularly distinct,as are Chinatowns in other big cities that I know. YOu just sort of wander into it and there you are. Of course there are lots and lots of food options and pagodas and temples. It's quite fun at night when everyone is out and baout but unless you have an absolute bent for Chinese street food on a particular night, I wouldn't be particulalrly seeking it out as the whole central city area is always alive and vibrant anyway.

Chinatown is a worthwhile alternative visit when in Yangon.

The area is lively, has an organic feel and a heart and soul. The streets offer market stalls, street food and bars. An area popular for tourists and locals alike. The area is a focus for dining and leisure.

A little rustic perhaps, that said, if it wasn't, wouldn't feel as authentic. Worth a visit to enjoy local life.

This is a close packed area of streets with distinct areas selling specific products. Perhaps not as colourful as some chinatowns, it does have plenty of lively action.

Went here our first night in Yangon and then again 3 weeks later for our last night. The guys at the restaurant remembered us and were asking how we enjoyed their country Good food fun atmosphere and cold beer what more do you need? Pick what looks good and they barbecue it for you while you have a beer and watch the sites. Great way to spend an evening or 2. I think we spent 3 nights here actually
