Typical Yangon experience

We toured on this which was a half a day sightseeing. Interesting to see the outskirts, markets and how people live. Nothing Special

As the name suggest this is circular ride which would take about 3 hours, we chose about an hours ride which was about right. It is a genuine local service but is being used increasingly by tourists as it provides a fascinating trip through some of the real Yangon that is away from the tidied up tourist routes. The seats... Got 3hrs to spare in Yangon? Well, go to platform 7 at Yangon station, pay 200 Kyat ($A0.20) & hop on the train that does a full loop around the greater city area & back to Yangon. Carriages are very basic & the train is slow but that is all part of the experience. Go in the morning & you... More

At the time we were there work was being done on new tracks which will make the trip much faster. However, we did the full 3 hr circle and found it very interesting. You see an amazing market that is where large numbers of farmers bring their goods for Yangon. The most interesting part was all the variety of hawkers... More

The train trip is not intended as an attraction and I am not sure it should be called like this. It is just a common means of transport. For people taking the train, westerners may be the attraction. As people come in and out, one gets a feel of what Yangon is about. The train gets very busy. Finding a... More

If you've never been on a train in Asia then this is a great place to start. At central station they are very helpful and will help you get your ticket and show you to the correct train. On board it's very local so don't expect windows, air conditioning or seats as it gets very busy. The whole journey will... More

Lonely planet guide recommended to take this trip it was the 5 th most interesting thing to do on their list. It's not so easy to find the platform so turn up early. Going for the whole 3 hours will be too long we managed 2 hours and found it fun and interesting watching how the locals travel. There is... More

The circle train is a cheap, easy and accessible way to experience a taste of real Yangon. I was completely fascinated by what I experienced. It's a bit of a rough ride and those who get motion sick may find it a bit tricky. Make sure you allocated 3 hours for this must do experience.

Easy and interesting. We felt welcomed by the other travellers, eventhough no one spoke English. They looked at us and we looked at them, with mutual interest. Do not forget to bring water, they did sell fruit and street food ... that probably western stomachs should avoid.
