The Central Telegraphic Office is a little distance from the Maha Bandula Park. It is an impressive British Colonial building and reminds you of the days of the British Raj, There isn't too much activity inside. The interiors are still cool because of the high ceiling, and old electric fans. They have preserved some old telegraph and telefax machines ( a whole generation has grown up without seeing these, but it is nostalgic to people of my times) and there is a bright red Post Box taking us to the times of "snail-mail"

Built during WOI ready in 1917 the Central Telegraph Office is now more than a hundred years old. It is still standing and functional (see the construction with antenna on top), but in desperate need of a make-over. Architect John Begg did a good job paying much attention to the foundation, as the colossal building rests on poles in swampy land.

It is not possible to visit the main central section of the building (entrance on Pansodan street). However, the Kyauktada post office is in its northern wing and open to the public (enter on Maha Bandula road). There is a small collection of exhibits (old telegraph and typewriters) nobody seems to pay much attention to.

This building is a colonial-style Central Telephone & Telegraph Office in Yangon located on the stretch of Pansodan which is the most beautiful street of Yangon It is owned by the Ministry of Communications, Posts & Telegraphs and the ground floor is currently being used as a telephone mail with stalls selling mobile phones and SIM cards. There are some old phones and equipment on display.
