We enjoyed our long morning spent here. A fairly short bus ride from the city (though at 45-minute intervals so check the return timetable too). It is essentially a very attractive and interesting botanical garden with many large cages for birds from New Caledonia and elsewhere, and more (even lemurs!). Well signposted but their map helps in weaving around the many paths. It would be a great pity, we thought, to visit Noumea without taking the time to stroll, look and relax in this park. On a weekday it was nice to see how much local primary school parties were enjoying it too!

I did not have the greatest expectations for this Park, but I was very pleasantly surprised. There are miles of paved concrete trails with all sorts of large bird enclosures. Most places where our group went was under shaded trees, so it was a perfect walk. We got to see the famous cagous being fed at about 2pm. There were masses of people all around trying to get pictures, but after a while people moved so everyone could get a picture. The birds were almost tame and just calmly waited for food. There was one disabled female who got her leg damaged by a rival male, but she still was taking care of her young. We also saw crows, owls, lemurs, white peacocks, bats, birds of prey, and loads of different birds. In 2 hours our tour group saw maybe 20% of the park, so if you have a full-day, there is a lot to see. Most of the signs are in French and English. Restrooms are clean and water fountains available. A definite hidden gem.

Located on a hill with lovely views across the city, this provides a lovely green oasis within the City. A pleasant place for a stroll with a range of animal exhibits. The highlight, of course, being the magi and that pout on a wonderful display for us. Probably the only place you are likely to see these wonderful birds on a visit to New Caledonia.
