If you want to acquaint yourselves with Melanesean culture this museum is a good opportunity. The exhibits along with information provided are good enough to make you aware of local history and the inhabitants' way of life and you can spend sometime communing with it at its colorful. But don't forget to have local currency.

From large scale carvings to small trinkets, the exhibits are world class. They are arranged nicely with good explanations. Downstairs concentrates on New Caledonia. Upstairs there are items from all over the South Pacific

A good collection of local and south pacific artefacts. Be aware of the lunch-time closure (11.30 - ?) Luckily it was handy to my hotel.

This museum is focused on indigenous culture, and is middling in its explanations and we left feeling that, compared to the other fantastic museums around Noumea, it was disappointing. We knew nothing about Kanak culture before we came to the museum, and felt we knew only a little bit more after we left. Lots of "stuff" but it didn't somehow... More

My family and I enjoyed learning about the original culture of New Caledonie and I was surprised how engaged my 6 year old was with the artefacts and the story boards. It wasn't very big but it was a lovely visit and I am glad we went.

This museum is very interesting, with lots of Kanak and other Melanesian artifacts. It is very easy to find, and a short walk from the Morning Markets and Place des Cocotiers.
