We stayed at Anse Vata and walked to Lemon Bay which was approx 15 to 20 mins. Snorkelled off the rocks on right side (facing in) which was great at full tide. Bay is lovely for swimming. Ate lunch at Babar which was great. There are no night time buses and we were a bit scared to do the walk at night time

this was our first trip, we didn't book anything on the cruise or before the cruise( it cost more then booking it that day, and one option had closed down leaving a few out of pocket) upon getting off boat on to an bus then off in town at park were there were lots of pop ups tourist attractions targeting us, being a bit overwhelmed we just decided to get the red hop on hop off bus to Lenon bay for some snorkeling. it was fantastic we seen in an enclosed beach lots of fish, shell animals as well as turtles. the beach was easy to access being next to main road and bus drop off. the bus ride was open all day and could do multi stops, we got to see a lot of the town by bus ands its amazing steep streets to the housing fauna. loved this option gave us lots of stop options like the markets, shopping center, the sea aquarium ect.

This is a lovely beach for families, especially at the moment as it’s the only beach open for swimming in Noumea. Lovely and calm water and safe

From the cruise port, we chose a self guided tour $40 / Australian per person. Taking a bus (40 meters) walki g not allowed in port grounds. Then the Chou Chou train through the town taking at least 30 mins through the traffic, locals constantly beeping their horns at the train, not sure if this is for safety, hello or annoyance. The train is typical cute, touristy open sided and small, no good if you're tall, offering a nice picturesque journey to Lemon Bay.

Lemon Bay a popular tourist beach environ, street opposite beach lined with restaurants and cafes, no tourist souvenir or giftware / homeware stores at all. Nor takeaway style food for icecreams, snacks or drinks that we could find. Lots of sit down eat in places which looked nice.

The beach is stoney and coral and no good for sitting on. There is a grassed strip parallel to the water, crowded especially under the limited trees, a few bench seats but no tables.

Need reef shoes, snorkelling good. Water clear and fish in shallows. On our day there was sea lice and could feel the sharp bites and Itchy welts were coming up for the next few days. So pack a good quality itch cream / antihistamine as you'll need it, but dont be put off by the chance it will happen as the water is lovely. I made sure to rinse off under the fresh shower too.

The only down side is the distance to the port as it gives you no time to do any other exploration of Noume, and there is nothing else to do at Lemon Bay. $40PP for the train to the beach is expensive when there is no commentary either. And when the train goes down the main beach boulevard the lady driver blares the train horn constantly for the 500 meters which is absolutely annoying, when on board and then every 30 to 60 mins the local kids seemed to like it but can't see the point as to why.

On our tour, it was very hot and if people did t swim they sat around on the ground waiting for the train, with no seats or cold refreshments it was a long hot boring wait.

If I was to return on a cruise. I'd miss all organised options and take an uber and go to the beach, with Lunch and drinks at the cafes and then uber back to Port around 3pm allowing plenty of time to be on board before departure. Still need the free bus shuttle to town and port.

Cruise ship docks at Port in Noumea was which is at the shipping container terminal.

We were on the first cruise ship back to Noumea since COVID (3 years). It was also our first time to Noumea and we used the hop on hop off tour buses. From all the stops Lemon Bay was the great. Beautiful clean warm water, clean beach & life guards.

They have pontoons about 60m of shore you can swim out to and jump, dive and bomb off. It’s a ripper for little kids or teens. Plenty of fish 🐠 around to snorkel for and a decent reef at one end.

Just a beautiful relaxing day at the beach, we arrived via the $10USD Hop on Hop of Bus that goes by every 15 minutes.

Grad your snorkeling gear and head here before or after breakfast at the local cafe. Head out through the centre of the bay if you are not keen on weed. Hopefully you won’t miss the turtles. Then head to either side to check out the reefs
